So if my laptop's internal battery is fried, how much will I pay for a new one?

So if my laptop's internal battery is fried, how much will I pay for a new one?

It seems after an overseas venture, my laptop's battery couldn't handle the foreign voltage (even though I purchased a converter and all that). The thing doesn't turn on now.

I assume this is the result of a destroyed battery? How much is this going to cost me? I did some searching and saw prices from $20 all the way to $150... so that's kind of broad. It's an HP, about 3 years old. I don't have the thing with me so I can't give any specs more specific than that.
Thanks

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I just bought a battery for my Dell Inspiron laptop, Dell wanted about $200 (CAN) for it, but I found one on ebay for $80. The one I got from ebay works fine, and so does the adapter I bought off ebay (I wasn't sure if what I had was a battery or adapter problem).

Replacing the battery might be futile though if you've blown your motherboard... Check out the capacitors on the MB, if they're blown, you're SOL.

How ya doing, buddy?

Don't assume it is the result of a fried battery -- it likely isn't. And you don't have to open it up and look at the mobo, just try running it without the battery in by plugging it into the wall to make sure that the entire laptop isn't busted.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Shit. How likely is this? I don't have the laptop on me... I won't be able to take a look at it for about a week or so. Would my harddrive be in danger as a result of a blown motherboard? Fuckin' a.

With a power issue, given that the battery/power supply provides the power to everything, it could just be the battery, it could be every component in your computer.

First, try taking the battery out and running off the power cord. If it doesn't work, you're screwed. You can see if you can get your data off the drive via a external bay made for 2.5" laptop drives, but no guarantees.

I will try that when I get my hands on it.
Thanks a lot.
