RIP Joseph Barbera
Joe Barbera, half of the Hanna-Barbera animation team that produced such beloved cartoon characters as Tom and Jerry, Yogi Bear and the Flintstones, died Monday, a Warner Bros. spokesman said. He was 95.

This comes as a heartfelt loss for me. I hold a deep respect for Mr. Barbera's numerous contributions to America's, and the world's, pop culture. The Flintstones has been ingrained into the psyches of nearly every civilized country in the Western hemisphere. Yogi Bear will always be an icon of 60s zeitgeist. And Scooby Doo, what would we do without Scooby?
He'll be missed, for sure. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
I read about this myself ealier today and this too comes at a heartfelt loss to me. I grew up on Hanna-Barbera cartoons and he'll be sorely missed.
Rest In Peace, Master Joseph. ![]() This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Holy Chocobo |
It seems that this is a year in which we lose media greats. Comic artist Dave Cockrum, football activist Lamar Hunt, and now Joseph Barbera. All will be missed, but I shall miss Barbera the most. May he rest in peace.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |

he will be missed for sure I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
I just saw this on an Adult Swim bump. He really was quite an innovator, creating all of these timeless characters. His presence in animation will undoubtably be missed.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
Well, at least he lived a very long and fulfilling, well, maybe not personally for him, but definitely for people who watched the shows.
FELIPE NO |
Yeah, he's a legend. He'll definitely be missed, but his works will live on and continue to do justice to his name.
Also fixing the thread title. ![]() What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Very unfortunate news, indeed. The works of this partnership are deeply engrained into the minds and lives of so many people, myself included. A lot of those cartoons were a huge part of my youth and childhood. Even though he is gone, his contributions and achievements will continue to live on and inspire forever.
R.I.P. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Yeah, this is sad news. I grew up watching all of those cartoons too. I loved Tom and Jerry as a kid. I loved mainly the Flintstones, the Jetsons, Yogi Bear and Scooby Doo.
I used to eat those Flintstones vitamins too as a kid. R.I.P Joseph Barbera -- a cartoon legend. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Oh man...
I'm gonna end up weeping like a baby when I watch the Flintstone's Christmas special this year. :\ This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() Fat bottom girls you make the rockin' world go 'round |
