when using my mouse it freezes for 1 second and returns 2 normal. Does anyone know the reason for this and how the problem can be fixed?

Wireless mouse? Could be either a signal strength issue or an interference issue. Try moving the receiver closer to the mouse, or replacing/charging your batteries. Also if you mouse has an alternative wireless channel, switch to that. If it's not wireless, damned if I know... could be dirt in the mechanism.

Is it optical or does it use a ball mechanism? If it's optical, then I would suggest that the mouse pad you are using may be at fault. You need a certain type of surface for an optical mouse. I recommend experimenting.

Its a optical. Ive been using this mouse pad 4 over a year and have never had a problem until now.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Well that's the only answer I can think of. The eye needs to be able to discern sufficient fine details in the surface, or it will move irregularly. I suppose it could also be dust, or just the natural death of an aging electronic device.

Have you tried hooking it up to a different USB port in the back of your computer? Maybe there's something wonky going on with the power supplied to it there.

Certain types of software that perform low-level operations in the background can cause the mouse to lag, particularly those that access the disc (disc operations tend to take priority over other hardware functions, which is why your computer appears to freeze while a hard disc or CD-ROM in standby spins up). I had this problem with the latest version of Diskeeper, but I sorted it out. It's one possibility anyway.
