How many hours a week do you work?
The reason I ask is because I feel these days like all of my time is getting sucked away just from school and work, and there's no time left for me to just sit and relax, or go see a movie with the pals, or whatever. Then I see other people who work their asses off with a full time job, as a full time student, and don't seem to complain about it, so I wonder what the average is.
I was working 30 hours a week until recently, when I requested one more day per week off, so now it's 25. Then 12 hours at school, which, my professors tell me, is actually a 40 hour a week job in itself. Jam it back in, in the dark.

I work a full forty, sometimes less sometimes more depending. It's never off by more than an hour a two weekly, since my company pays for my education.
I am a fulltime student as well, although I should correct myself - this semester, I am not (due to some conflicts). I have never put school before work - I just can't seem to get myself to think that way. I find work more productive and believe it or not, more educational than class. I have been working since I was 14 years old, so it's more a way of life to me. I don't think I could go back to working part time, even with school. I would sooner sacrifice school over work. More practical, I guess. (And this goes for most jobs I've ever held. I just love working. I doubt I'm the norm, here. I should mention that my education is a joke, though. It's nothing like a diehard dorm-living uni. There are a bunch of people my age there who live in their own places and are older than the usual college crowd. So I am abnormal across the board, I guess. ;_; There's nowhere I can't reach.

I have to maintain at least a 35 hour average, or I lose my benefits, so I'm usually in the 35-38 range.

I have been a full time student, though not this semester (one class got removed from my schedule due to some problems I had with the university and could not resolve in time). I've been working 25 hours a week on top of that. I have been kind of in the same attitude as Sass, for some reason. I sleep through class every once in a while and miss some to finish other stuff, but I never sleep through work or miss a shift or even show up late. I don't know why I'm that way, but I am. I do often feel pretty tired, and sleep through some classes like I said before. I'm sure if I strived to do very well in school, I'd have little free time.

I am a full time student with no work...
![]() ![]() Next term, I will be working around 10 hours a week, and for one week in March, I will have a job and will make about $500 in four days. That should help pay for my computer. I was speaking idiomatically. |
I work 8 hours every second week. the other one, I work 16. Being a student, this is the maximum I can give
How ya doing, buddy? ![]() |
When I was still going to school, I was also working 15 hours a week.
I'm out of school now and working 35hrs/week. FELIPE NO ![]() |
Yup... 40-hour a week job, started back in July, and should continue until I'm ready for grad school or something (maybe next year?).
When I was in school, I did 40-hour week jobs as well during my winter and summer breaks. I haven't been jobless since my sophomore year of high school, but I didn't work during semesters usually. The few times I did, it was on my off days from class, so 1 or 2 8-hour days a week. :/ What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
My actual work time is about 37.50 hours per week at my job, followed by 6 hours of night school in a week as well, coming to a total of 43.50 hours, excluding studying time, commuting time etc. My "booked up" nights (meaning I have either a group meeting or night classes) are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights, leaving Monday and Friday night for me to get my stuff in order. Most weekends are pretty free, besides 2 hours vacuuming on a Saturday, and 3 hours to Church and lunch on Sunday, surprisingly enough. Interestingly enough, if I can budget my time and maximize my lunch hours studying, I can find time to play video games (read FFXII) for maybe 1 hour everynight. This way I might actually get all my hunts done, 1 a night. Man that's so nerdy. If not video games, then it's watching animu. I added that tad bit of information just in case you'd like to know how much time I allocate to fun things as well.

I bank 40 hours a week. I hope to find a decent part time job or two as I'm resuming college in January. Problem is that there is nothing but seasonal employment decking the halls right now so I have to wait this out a little.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
Don't work at all and full time student
![]() I have enough trouble managing my time with 3 pitiful classes. A job would wreck me. I know, I'm sad. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I am currently working part-time. I work two, 3 hour shifts consecutively Monday-Friday but most nights leave early just because. Prior to this I worked 45 hours weekly for seven years. I'm hoping to get more hours or a second part-time job in the soonish future but for the meanwhile I don't miss my old burnt out routine at all.
I'm taking time away from university right now but I plan on returning to pick up on my philosophy studies. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() You're staring at me like I just asked you what the fucking square root of something. |
Since it's the winter hours, my hours have been fluxuating between 42-47 hours a week working 6 days.
And no schoolling of any sort, I dont see how I could succeed at both if that were the case. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Definitely over 40. I have one full-time job that requires a full 40 hours a week, and another part-time that takes up a good 25-30. No student time for me!

I'm lucky to get away with under 50 hours of work a week. I'm also a full-time student working toward my MBA. My life right now is pretty much, wake up, go to work, go to school, do schoolwork, sleep, repeat. Yes, sometimes I do wonder if it is worth it. Fortunately I'm getting a free ride through school though my company, unfortunately they are making sure they get their money's worth out of me.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Being a full-time student, I manage to put in a hard zero hours per week of labor.

I work part-time as part of the database management branch of the financial bureaucracy wing of the Jackson School of Geosciences. I only work on average 15 hours there each week after classes.
It's a rather mild job, but the projects are fascinating at times and the results benefit the entire workforce. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I've been out of school for over 5 years now, and working 40+ hours per week for 4 years. When I was in school, I had a work-study job with the university that took about 16 hours a week, and I also worked in a shoe store (freshman year) and pharmacy (rest of college) about 20 hours a week.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I'm full time medical student spending 40++++ hrs/wk in my teenage life at hospital T-T (in fact 7am-6pm everyday + 7am-10pm when I'm on service which is 3 days once + venepuncture service at 5.30 am once a week "+ no weekend or holidays" ) *sigh*
Anyone feel sorry for me?,lol. ![]() I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I work full-time, 37.5 hours a week. I also do a fairly pointless 3 hours or so in the pub but that's hardly working.
40 hours seems long for a full time working week, are you including lunchbreaks in that? The EU working time directive makes it illegal for anyone over here to do more than 45 hours in a week unless you opt out of it first. My mate who's head chef in a resaurant often does 100+ hour weeks but then he also gets paid a fuckign fortune. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() ![]() |
I work anywhere from 35-37 hours a week, plus go to school about 2 hours every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Starting next week, if my boss remembers, I'll be getting an hour cut to hopefully around 25 hours. (lol she never remembers anything though) It's hard to keep up with homework and tests for TWO classes with work. T_T Plus I have no time for FFXII. Woe.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
I am working 40 hours a week right now as a Co-op. Basically, I work with a company for two non-back to back semesters and finish my undergraduate education as well. I will be taking 17 hours this spring, and possibly working part time on campus or at a research center.

I just have a simple data entry job through my school. I normally get in about 18 hours in a given week so it's a pretty decent job for my situation. I like my co-workers and I get plenty of time to goof off on the net.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?
Can I borrow a feeling?

But 40 hours is the 'typical' US work week 8am-5pm Monday-Friday with an hour lunch. However, a 50+ hour work week is actually more normal for your typical person on salary than a 40 hour work week these days in the US. Plus even then a lot of people bring their work home on top of that 50+ hours. There are also no laws here which set a maximum amount of time a person can work over here. How ya doing, buddy?
