AMD vs Intel chips
I'm looking for some benchmarks and reviews that are well written and easy to understand for those that are not super into computers. I'm specifically interested in the chips that are used in laptops - Can I get some links to recent articles? I had a little trouble finding stuff on TomsHardware yesterday. I only really saw laptop reviews on their MobilityGuru page.

That will give you a little background about the mobile sector. I can't really explain much more than what that article does. It seems that now an Intel Core laptop is your best bet for bang for the buck. Here is some info on the differences between Core Duo and Core 2 Duo: http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets...spx?i=2808&p=1 As much as I hate to admit it, if I were to buy a laptop right now, I would get an Intel based one. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
The issue with Intel right now is that while their processors are nice for the money, their motherboards are ungodly expensive. Besides, it's not like AMD's offerings suck. I paid $265 for my 4800+ X2 (2x 2.4Ghz Cores with 1MB of Cache each), and this sucker rips through everything - Photoshop Renders, Gaming, DVD Encoding, Massive Compile jobs, you name it - like butter. My machine boots in under ten seconds. I can honestly say that there is no way in the near future (near future being 2-4 years) that I can see myself needing more power. And this sucker's not even top-of-the-line!
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Oh, just stop it Arainach, you know you would rather have those compiles complete 200 ms faster with an E6400. And it's only $100 more! Are you blind? I ask, ARE YOU BLIND?!
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
I paid $200 for a 4200+ X2 (2x 2.2Ghz Cores with 512Kb of Cache each). Man, it runs awesome and can play almost any game out there. These dual cores haven't even maxed themselves out yet because they aren't fully functional on XP and even on the beta versions of Vista. The dual cores will have much more juice when they are used fully.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
