Rocket Slime anyone?
I read about this spinoff for the DS a few months ago, and I'm just itching to play it. But I've seen next to no hype for it. Has anyone here gotten it?
For the unawares, it's a Dragon Quest spinoff where you play as a slime named Rocket. I guess it's more Zelda-ish, but then there's giant tank battles. I have no clue how this game works, but the concept is appealing enough. GameSpy Review 1UP Review Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I haven't gotten Rocket Slime yet, but I've had the Japanese version "Slime Mori Mori" since May. The game is incredibly fun and quirky, with the only drawback being that it's pretty easy the whole way through. The gameplay was so addicting though that it really didn't matter to me how easy it was.
The tank battles are so much fun, and some of them are actually difficult at the end. Items like the machine gun add plenty of variety to how the fights end up, although I would have liked more of the tanks to have different abilities. The Bunnicorn tank can fire its drill horn once in a battle and the Axe Dragon tanks randomly drop the axe, but that's pretty much it as far as I could tell. I do plan to buy Rocket Slime at some point to see what I missed. I never could figure out if it was possible for me to battle someone else with my single cartridge, and I know that I missed a mini-game or two. I'm also curious to see if there were any censor changes. Some of the enemies in the last area carried handguns and the final boss smoked a cigar. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |

I was a bit uneasy about this game at first. Yet now it does sound fun. Whether it is easy or not it doesn't bother me. As long as it's fun. I pray that there are not censor changes. Censors are terrible.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
So what if I am weird...? At least I'm different. After all it's better to be remembered weird then not be remembered at all.

I thought it was pretty fun, but maybe a little overrated. I would have loved it if the action had a been a little more complex, and if getting the great items didn't require a lot of item gathering for synthesis.
The tank battles are pretty awesome, but again, the only upgrades you can give your tank are HP upgrades, and there's not that many useful crew characters you can recruit. I have yet to complete the... Spoiler:
so I might change my tune about the overall game. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I got to the end of the story about a week ago. It was enough to keep me amused on train rides, which I guess is the point of a handheld game, but I really wish there was a bit more complexity to the game. I guess it really is a game for children.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
