Looking for a good anti-virus program

Hello everybody!

I just switched Internet operator, and the first thing I knew when I started up the computer today was that I had a virus, which luckily was removed automatically, but you never know. Does anyone have an anti-virus program you'd wish to share or recommend? I have Norton from before, but it's old.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I use AVG Free Edition. It works fine for me. It has daily updates, automatic schedule tasks, virus vault etc. Best of all it's free.

I second AVG.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

If you don't intend on really getting a virus, AVG Free edition for the win.

If you're retarded enough to get viruses and want to remove them with a good degree of accuraccy, NOD32.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Use NOD32, it's very powerful and uses minimal to no resources.

I currently use KAV and it is really good.

A recent anti virus program thats been getting good reviews is AntiVir. It has a free version and a premium version.

How ya doing, buddy?

Kapersky is among the best effectivity-wise, as long as you keep it up to date. NOD32 is slightly less effective, but is infinitely more powerful at detecting a virus which is not in its database. Because of that, I'd say that nod32 is the best.

So some of you say AVG and others say Kaspersky, and even some say NOD32. Hmm... which one should I go for? I have AVG, and it seems good enough, but is my computer secure just because the virus definitions update themselves every now and then? Is AVG good enough? Otherwise please recommend another antivirus program, if i.e. NOD32 or Kaspersky are better. Thanks =)

There's no point installing antivirus software unless you actually use it. Most programs these days will allow you to set it to scan on a regular basis (daily/weekly/monthly) as well as a manual scan.

Also, spyware/adware/malware is a big issue with Windows systems. Running programs such as SpybotS&D, Adaware, and HijackThis should find anything that the antivirus program doesn't spot.

Well, I'm going to throw another name into the ring, AVG Antivirus.
I've been using it for a while now, and had no problems with viruses or spyware. It's free as well.
