Audigy 4 - No surround sound?

I'm using two sets of 2.1 speakers. My (awesome) nForce2 sound controller on my old computer was simply Plug'n'Play after setting the sound options to "Quadrophonic" or "5.1 Surround" in the Control Panel. There were also options under the Advanced portion of the Windows Volume Control that told the card I was plugging speakers into the microphone and line-in ports for 5.1.

Now, I've built a new computer with an SB Audigy 4 and I just cannot get surround to work. I'm plugged into the right ports, I've set Windows Sound options to "Quadrophonic" and even tried 5.1 (the card is 7.1). All I get is sound out of my front speakers. I couldn't find any other options that I could set. Was there something I missed?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Are you using the Creative Audio Console or do you have their applications such as Surround Mixer installed?

If you are using the Creative Audio Console then make sure that under the Speakers tab that the correct setting is selected and that the "Synchronize with Windows Control Panel" option is selected.

If you are using the other software, be sure to use the Surround Mixer application and run audio tests on your speakers from the app.

Also, what motherboard chipset and OS are you currently using?

Are you planning on doing anything major with this card like audio production or is it just for music and games? You might want to consider trying out the kx driver but be warned that it is only partially supported for Audigy 4 currently. kx works really good on some conigs, including Auidgy 4 configs, and not so good on others... so it might work for what you need.

They also mention issues with the Audigy 4 and device/driver compatability problems. If you have a VIA chipset board... be prepared to do some driver installation changes. Also make sure you also have your system stripped down to its minimum # of required parts (ie no add-on cards like tv tuners or anything)

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I'm using the Intel D975XBX (BadAxe) with the onboard audio disabled in the BIOS. I'm also NOT using any of the add-on programs that come with the drivers. I'm simply using just the drivers themselves.

The card itself is just being used for movies, games and music; nothing high-end like music creation. The system is stripped down as far as it goes. I'm guessing this is a software/driver issue. I might go back to onboard audio for now. :/

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Make sure you have digital out put only deselected under speaker settings if it is an analog speaker system. Visa versa if it is a digital speaker system.

I have an analog system and made that mistake with my audigy 2 and 5.1 speakers. Took me forever to figure that out.

I'm just posting for anyone that even cares. I had mentioned that I didn't install the Creative Audio Console which is the program that installs with the drivers. This program is needed. My surround works now, and it's really not that bad. Still not as good as nVidia's nForce Mixer, but it's fully featured.

I was speaking idiomatically.
