Friday Night Lights (TV)
So, at the beginning of a season filled with the supernatural, it seems like everyone's neglecting one of the down-to-earth series that debuted.
If you've seen the movie, you'll know where the season is coming from, but in some ways it's good to see them able to take their time, so that everything isn't compressed into the span of 2 hours. It may be that I have more of a connection to the show because I played high school football in Texas, and as first string center, I fractured my back a week before the first game of senior year, but if you enjoy football in general it's a good show to watch. Obviously it's been dramatized for TV, but the performances and the storyboarding for the episodes makes you believe that it could easily happen. Anyone else keeping up with this series? Yes, I started watched this and even though I know nothing of American Football (aside from my experience with Madden '93) and didn't see the film, but I'm really enjoying this series so far.
How ya doing, buddy? |
I've never seen the movie, and I'm not even a fan of football in general, but I still like this show. I never played high school football myself, but I know how big it is here in Texas, so I can see where this show is coming from. I think it does a good job of portraying the small town football culture, with believable characters that give a great performance.
It's just too bad no one is watching this show, though. I'm not one to talk bad about one show to praise another, but it really is kind of sad that people would rather more reality crap like Dancing With the Stars, or another one of CBS' rehashes instead of watching a great show like this. Even if the ratings don't get better though, I hope NBC at least keeps it around for a full season, so we can have somewhat of a complete story arc (like one full football season). This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |

So is this show picking up where the movie left off, or is it a reality show?
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
It's not a reality show. It's basically using the same ideas that the movie used, but in a modern day setting.
I think that's really the biggest threat to the show's success, is the people that have already seen the movie and think it doesn't bring anything new to the table. How ya doing, buddy? |
And it's a real shame too because this is one of the few shows this season that I think is refreshingly good with a great cast. The film was awesome and the series kind of does the same great job of portraying the football action. However, unlike the film the way it's shot with a more hand-held reality-television feel to it. This may or may not be a good thing depending on who you ask, but I love the cinematography.
I honestly hope that more people watch this show because if Deal Or No Deal gets picked up for a second season and this show gets canned THERES GONNA BE SHOOTINGS. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
