Setting up a VPN/gateway server

I have...
- 1 laptop (XP Home) that has internet access but is port blocked
- 1 desktop (XP Pro) that has unhindered internet access

What I want to accomplish is setting up the laptop to connect remotely to the desktop, out to the internet on the desktop's unrestricted line, then send otherwise port-blocked data back to the laptop via the desktop. A gateway server, I believe is the correct term.

Thoughts on how to accomplish this, in relatively plain English?

Jam it back in, in the dark.
