Over-clocking Video Card

I have a 128 MB Internal Videocard (came with the package). It's about 2 years old, Would it be safe to over clock it? If so, what's a reliable program I can use?

edit: Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family to be specific.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

You might as well just get a whole new graphics card. Hell, my GeForce4 (which is for sale btw ) can probably run rings around it.
I take it that you are trying to overclock your embedded graphics card. If that is the case, then you are pretty much on your own. Aside from the fact that you would have to hardcode a whole new BIOS for your motherboard (and in turn, most likely your operating system) to do this, there really isn't any point in it; and for this reason I don't think you will find any programs to do this. The 82915G graphics processing is just crap. If it were theoretically overclockable, you wouldn't see much improvement in performance.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Oh. Crap. Lol. Thanks for the info though.

Btw, do you have any suggestions for a cheap vid card? And capable of running HL2 nicely. =)

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Depends on what you want.

First of all, AGP or PCI-Express?

Second, Short Term Solution, or Lasting Solution?

Third, What is your Budget?

If you have AGP, XFX PVT73KUAL3 Geforce 7600GS 256MB GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail - $124.99 from newegg.com

If you have PCI-Express, eVGA 256-P2-N615-TX Geforce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail - $129.99 from newegg.com

Both are Capable of Running Half Life 2 Very Well. I'm assuming you want to keep it relatively cheap, so these are more or less short-term solutions (1 to 2 years tops)

Considering my lack of confidence in the craftsmanship of XFX products, and the fact that you can have twice the video memory for only $15 more, I think this might be a much better choice:
BFG Tech BFGR76512GSOC Geforce 7600GS 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail - $139.99

On the off chance that you have just PCI, get a Geforce4 MX. It's a completely shitty card, but it DOES play HL2 at quais-respectable settings (medium detail with all available options turned on at 800x600).

Just don't expect to do anything better than that, though. Not even Counter-strike: Source can run on it. Trust me, I tried.

I have a GeForce 4 MX 64MB and I can run CS:S at 1024x768 with medium settings at a reasonable 40FPS. Turn it to low (not even much of a change) and it's 50. Hell, I overclocked the memory a fair bit to get 60. Sure it's only DirectX 7, but if you like Source, it's a cheap fix.

Since we are having a video card conversation over here, can My video Card play Half Life 2?

I have a Geforce 2 FX 5200

It might be able to play it on a lower setting. My old Ti 4200 could run the game on low to medium settings, so yours might be able to.

It would also depend on the remainder of your PC specs.

Namely CPU speed and Memory.

Pfft, my old GeForce 2 MX 32MB ran HL2 on decent settings. I was using that card till mid '05, upgrading to my BFG 6800GT OC I bought off my friend for 100. Best investment I made on my PC.

heheh yes bigworm, when my x800GTO failed a year and a half ago and i was left with only a RAGE 128 PRO, it still ran HL2 at around 30fps (albeit with cruddy settings).

anyway ... if you have only PCI, then i'd recommend x1300PCI. sure, it's overpriced, but it's the fastest and most feature-rich card that is PCI.

if you have PCI-E, the x800GTO is still a steal at 86 bucks, and the x850XT is great at 120 (4 more pipes than 7600 and faster memory, but lacks support for SM3.0... it's not too much of a drawback).

for AGP, get either a 7600GS or x800GTO (they're both pretty similar... x800GTO has better memory speed, but 7600 has more features).
