It might just have lowered the reserved HDD space used for the Recycle Bin and OS. That, or it dumped a bunch of temp/uneeded files...

Mine did that as well awhile back, and didn't lose anything valuable.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

It'll also compress files that haven't been used for something like the last 30 days.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Wow, if a compression freed up THAT much space, it would also be a good idea to defragment your drive.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

I never defrag my drives. Windows requires 15 gigs free disk space in order to do it ;/ hate that..thanks a bunch for the replies everyone:biggrin:

You should defrag your volumes regularly, really; it can speed things up considerably and extend the live of a drive.
(Windows only requires 15% free space on a volume to be free in order to defragment.)

In other words, you should burn things to CD/DVD and delete them in order to run a defragmentation.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Or get another program to defrag your drives, I know O&O Defrag is a pretty common recommendation around here.

Diskeeper is also a fine defragmentation program.

It could have freed up old Microsoft Office installation files, which (for some reason) Microsoft decides you should keep it on your hard disk. You should have looked at the Disk Cleanup program, which tells you what files are removed and how much free space you will gain.

Windows also deletes Temporary Internet Files when you clean up, and it reserves way too much for itself. You can always lower that,as there is no need for 3 GB of cache in these days of broadband.
