noob in DVD re-making(?)... What a painful, complicated peice of whatever.
Hey dear guys and gals, please please please help me.
I have a dvd of the movie Hostel, but I want to reauthor it so I can: 1. remove all trailers, previews and deleted scenes 2. but Keep all director's comments (there are 4 audio commentaries!) 3. Keep English Subtitles only 4. Make and use my own customized DVD menu because the original one has links to the trailers etc which I want to remove. So therefore my goal is to have a dvd with my own menu with chapter selection and the main movie with english subtitle only plus the 4 commentaries. And so continuing with the little knowledge i know of DVds, I was able to rip the dvd with dvd-cloner to the hard disk (just the movie) and I have this: ![]() AND NOW I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT. SO MANY FILES, I mean, WTF? I feel my head is gonna explode. I've search Doom9.net but I got all the more CONFUSED with all the programs I have to get. I didnt know it was this complicated. Please help me, guide me anyone... A step by step guide would be great, and I'd prefer it if I didnt have to re-encode the video so as not to loose quality. Jam it back in, in the dark. |

I would suggest posting this somewhere in the Computing section towards the bottom of the page. You'd find more help there.

Oh I see.. How do I move this post to there?
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |

Just close this thread (an option in posting) and start a new one in the other forum. It's either that or a moderator will move it... once one notices.

The easiest solution has to be DVD Shrink BTW. This will get you what you need and is very easy to use. Download from doom9.org 's download section.

Yeah, another vote for DVD shrink. I use it all the time to remove trailers and menus from DVDs.

I tried using DVDShrink, but how do I use my own menu to navigate? I dont think dvdshrink has menu making/importing support..

You need something like Sony DVD Architect or Sonic DVDIt, professional authoring software to remake your dvd from zero. I have Sonic DVDIt and I could upload it for you, but before that you'd better be sure if DVDIt can import existing DVD video data and use it the way you like it. Creating menu's is a breeze with this program. I normally make my own dvd's from various video sources (divx, avi, quicktime) but I've never tried making one from other DVD video.
So try to look it up if it's at all possible and if so I'm willing to upload it. UPDATE: I've looked it up myself and it's not possible to directly import the video files into Sonic DVDIt. You could however make MPEG-2 files out of them and import those and make your menu and burn the thing. It'll take big time to convert them btw. But I'm sure that's too much of a hassle for you, it would be for me too... So if anyone has any other suggestions? What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

You needn't make things more complicated than they already are. Since you're new to DVDs, you'll want to take things one step at a time. There is a program, Vob blanker which allows the removal of trailers, extras etc. As for removing menu buttons, this is the simplest way that I know of. Shouldn't be a problem seeing as how I got my kid sister to do it.
![]() http://www.rippraff.de/Stuff/Menu_edit.htm You can download PgcEdit here. As for subtitles, you can leave them all in. They are so small in file size that it won't make a difference whatsoever. So keep the menu provided on the disc, main movie, and commentaries. Once that is all done, then compress with DVD Shrink. Most amazing jew boots |

If I do this, Make MPEG2 files out of them, will the quality be reduced? Is there a lossless way? Is there a way to extract all the files from the vob files to whatever individual files like subtitle files and stuff? Double Post:

Like I said about converting DVD to MPEG-2 files, it's not worth the hassle nor time, and there will always be quality loss, but hardly noticeable really. There are easier ways to get what you want and that PgcEdit proggie seems to do the job. Why not try out the utility that T1249NTSCJ posted. I didn't even know something like this existed. Maybe there's a way to eliminate the menu button entirely, I'm sure the program has more features than that 1 minute flash tutorial shows.

There is a way but unless you know what you're doing then the DVD structure will be all over the place. Don't jump in the water unless you can swim. As for making a DVD menu, if button removal is a problem for you then I can say that making a menu will be "a painful, complicated peice of whatever."

Sure, I'll write up a quick guide but from where exactly would you like me to start?
