Image Burning Failing?? Odd....

Okay,

-I use Nero 6.1 something + Sonic and both ALWAYS worked before 3 days ago
-Data DVD/CD, Audio CDs work fine and burn fine! I even had 2 MB only left on the DVD once and it still burned perfectly

-I tried 4 DIFFERENT images to burn - so I know the file isn't corrupt (have over 8 broken DVDs)

Okay, so I image burn (.iso) with Sonic and it's working fine until half way and then it stops saying some "error"... I burn the same project with Nero and it's "successfull" until I test the DVD and it doesn't work on either computers, DVD Player or PS2 - but ONE did work but it wouldn't load ("loading" but it's "loading" forever)

Any ideas what may be wrong? I don't think I installed anything odd over the past 3 days....

EDITING: BTW I have winxp, and using DVD-R Maxwell and I burned... LOTS before and they always worked

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Could you elaborate on the errors a bit?
Also, do the images or DVDs or whatever read fine in Windows?

eg: Open the image with Alcohol's virtual drive to verify the data is being read properly.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I don't have alcohol... but apparently the data is being written on there... it EXISTS there... but it's just not right!

Windows sees the data (when I explore the DVD), but my DVD/PS2 doesn't and it normally always does- the "image" isn't working....

And I mentioned once that my DVD read only ONE of the files but it kept loading and loading and loading and never even finished for 30 min (I let it go on while I watched something)... I'm not exactly new to burning... I've image burned LOTS of DVDs before... so it's confusing...

Could you show us what the error is that it's giving you?

That's the point there is no error it just won't work

Nero = successfull burning
and Sonic = error writing disk (can't get exact line but it was this with no indication)

Pop in PS2 = the red screen "not ps2 disc"
Pop in DVD = "No Title" when I press play

Though when I pop the DVD in the computer, it won't start up like an image DVD should... instead you have to "explore/open" the DVD content and you'll find the files in there

I was speaking idiomatically.

Can you directly copy a disk (DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink)?

Control panel, administrative tools, event viewer, check application and system for any errors either with hardware of software.
Download and use ImgBurn, best image writing program available and click on verify and it'll give us an idea where it went wrong because clearly if the discs are not being written as they should then it'll fail verification and give us some feedback.

Under Application Error there's a whole bunch of errors but it doesn't distinguish what.... the only thing I see is Application Error + Application Hang (no names, nothing next to the error)... and under Category there's None and 101

For system there are some variations...
http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/7268/3fi2.jpg

But still if it showed that it "burned successfully" would it still record under some?

Okay tried with DVD Decryptor to burn it... this is what I got

Surprise, surprise. Looks like the log mentioned the problem, head to DVD Decrypter settings and leave it as default. As I suggested in the previous thread, use ImgBurn. It's created by the Lighting UK, the creator of Decrypter and there have been plenty of improvements when writing images to discs. I should also mention, the latest version of ImgBurn can write files now contained in the VIDEO_TS folder so no need to create an image.
Unless you are using Decrypter with AnyDVD in the background, you shouldn't have the Elbycdio.dll enabled. Also it is suggested when writing to discs, that AnyDVD be disabled.

Hmmm k.... it's at default now and I did replace Decryptor with ImgBurn.... 2 questions now

1- I never had AnyDVD on, but I do have DVD43- should I keep or get rid of that

2- Since you seem to know lots about this... I've been meaning to ask... but I got lots of "PAL" (europe) Region Images, is there a way to change them to US so I can use them on my DVD rather than PS2?

BTW sry this all may seem like "duh" to you... I'm somewhat a newbie... just follow instructions and learn as I go >.<

There's nowhere I can't reach.

If I remember correctly, DVD43 was discontinued. The freeware program of choice nowadays is RipIt4Me. My choice hands down is AnyDVD, does an elegant job of handling the most aggressive of copy protections without butchering the disc structure. Its the only program I've ever paid for.

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=113088

As for converting PAL to NTSC, it won't be possible unless you have some serious DVD editing program like Sonic Scenarist and knowing the ins and outs the acutal DVD structure. What makes it so difficult is the simple fact that PAL & NTSC have different frame rates which complicates things quite a bit when adding the audio track without jittery playback. Timings and all have to match DVD standards exactly.

You could run AnyDVD which decrypts on the fly and allows limitless viewing of other region DVDs on your PC, so I recommend using your PC as part of your home theater setup.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Glad it worked out, you could just purchase a region free DVD player and all problems solved. :eyebrow:

Ah, question though....

Remember how I told you about the data being burned but not as an image...

Okay I burned a PS2 game (the times it failed that is) and the files were burned on the DVD (they exist)....

So is it possible to rip that of and re-burn it as an image? (since making a copy DVD probably won't work)

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

It's possible but I wouldn't be surprised if there are minor playback issues since it wasn't a 100% successful write to disc. I tried that with a DVD in the past and I had to redo it from scratch if I wanted error free playback.

It can work, as you're just making an image....but remember that when you copy a copy of a copy of a copy that's been copied off a copy.....quality can only degregate through each attempt. Make sure you lower the burn speed when you do it, as that can be a precaution to save some potential problems.

Well how do I do it?

I dun wanna just press on "copy DVD"... once i had a DVD that kept lagging on my PS2, then I just copied it directly and it worked perfectly...

But this one isn't even read by my PS2 (so it won't be wise to just copy it).... so I probably wanna rip it first... but I have no clue how to rip it first then burn it as an image

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Just a few notes about the generation loss when making copies of copies:
There is virtually no loss when copying DVDs. Thats because there is no thing like RAW images (with subcodes). The error correction information (inner parity and outer parity) is always recreated when burning an image. So let's say you have extracted the image from your disc without encountering a read error. Then the data burned on the new disc is exactly (+PI and PO) the same as the data from the old disc. Below the error correction level the (analogue) data can vary, but that's uninteresting for the end user.

Thats different from copying compact disc. If there was special information embedded in the ECC/EDC fields (the fields containing the error recognition and correcgtion data) then there could have been general loss because there is only limited correction data for the ECC/EDC field itself.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Well this is what I when I explore the DVD (it's a ps2 game)... not sure if it's missing a file... looks like there's stuff written here:
http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/8391/untitledyo4.jpg

Another thing I am using ImgBurn (instead of DVD Decryptor)... so I have no clue how to verify/rip or any of that sort... any help would be appreciated

That's the thing when I click on verify I get the following

FILELIST.BIN
E419C51B FOLDER (it's a folder)

When I double click on filelist.bin I get a Invalid of unsupported image file format

When I open up the folder I get:IOPRP.IMG with the same error

Does that mean it's invalid then?

I was speaking idiomatically.

omfg...

You've to select two things:
1) the drive your disc is in
2) the image file the disc was created from

A verification process compares data, so you need at least two sources of data - otherwise you have nothing to compare. If you wanna do a surface scan (check if the error correction information is coherent with the user data) then you have got to use another program like kprobe or isobuster.

Oh, thats bad. Remember to not delete data if you're not 100% sure it was written correctly on disc. Let's say you write 3 DVDs and have accidentaly turned on simulation mode (but you don't know it and don't check the logs). Then you delete the burned data and two weeks later you put the discs in the drive and voila -> no data, empty optical media and the erased data is not recoverable because you already downloaded new stuff on the same drive.

WELL, WELL... with DVD Decryptor I would verify a DVD by itself! And since ImgBurn is made by the same people and has almost the same functions I imagined it would do the same

Well normally all I do is re-insert the DVD in the computer and if there's data I assume the burn worked (which always has before) and especially when Nero gives the "successfull" burning sign
