Windows xp64 Microphone problem

I have Microsoft XP 64 and got a mic for use with vent. I plugged it in and my Asus sounds thing pops up saying that one is connected but when I try to use it it doesn't work at all. Tried the windows help and it said that I should go to Speech in control pannel and click on the speech recognition tab but that tab is not there for me.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get this to work? Oh and I tried 2 diffrent mics so that is not the problem.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

OK I found a way to fix this. I got the logitech USB headset for the PS2 and it works fine. However, when I plug it in the speekers turn off and all sound is through the headset. I had heard that there is a way to have music and such go through the speekers and a voice program such as Vent to go through the headset. Any ideas?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

You could go into control panel and to the sounds and audio options and set the output devices and maybe have some luck.

You could upgrade to normal Windows XP too.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
