Lightbulb Gamingforce Audio Project: Needs You?

We are starting up the Gamingforce Audio project again and need support from the community to help it become the best game music resource on the net! The goals for it are pretty huge, but with the right kind of help we can make this idea a reality.

If you fit ANY of these criteria, then being part of the GFA team is for you:
  • You are knowledgable about torrents.
  • You have a good understanding of game music.
  • You have been part of a game music community for a few years.
  • You collect game music.
  • You are knowledable about game music.
  • You are interested in helping build a high quality game music resource.
The site will feature its own torrent tracker along with a combination of direct link downloads. To prevent bandwidth usage spikes, the site will intelligently throttle speeds or shut down direct downloads if a certain quota is reached.

What's going to make the site rock is the consistency of everything on the site. Each album will have it's own "zone" which will have accurate tracklists, related lyrics, covers, sheet music, user submitted remixes/compositions, download links (torrent/direct), and user submitted ratings/reviews: Amazon style.

Users will be able to build their own mixes from the extensive track database and share them with the people, review albums, create top lists and even create a library of albums they own / wish by checking them off.

The goal is for the site to become very community oriented and to list every single game music album released! The site will be fully searchable as everything on the site will be database driven!

If you are interested in helping out let me know by emailing me at rich AT xelium.net or by sending me a private message. Be sure to include, why you want to help.

Thanks!

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Will this be like a torrent tracker site similar to Oink's Pink Palace. I know a bit about torrents and the way they work, but I don't know how my knowledge will be put to use by you.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I think I could be interested, I don't know as much about game music as I'd like, but I collect a lot of it when I can. Also torrents are my friend. PM will be sent shortly, see how I can help.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I fit the criteria so I shall help in any way possible. I'm not a guru of game music, but I have a nice collection that I'm willing to distro. I've got a fine knowledge of torrents, but I doubt I can host/seed them as my internet connection is sporadic.

PM sending soon.

I fit all of those, except for being a part of the community for several years. (only one year, to be precise). I'll send a PM soon.

Well I have been a part of GFF for some years and I had quite a VGM collection before a HDD crash wiped it.>< And I think I know abit about VGM yes.

So I would be happy if I could help in any way. GFF has always been a VGM site for me anyhow. :P

Direct downloads cost a fair bit of scratch. I know you have plans to limit this, but remember what happened last time? And Sarah says direct download sites like galbadia Hotel cost an arm and a leg, and that's paid for by absolutely retarded amounts of ads and other such things.

What do you plan on doing to combat this sort of cost.

How ya doing, buddy?

I might be interested to help, but first I'd like to know more about the planning. What needs to be done and what is the projected date at which the project will go online?

Right now, all we really need is more album entries. We already have over 2000 albums entered into the database. The CMS for album entry and management is largely complete, with only bug fixes needed (those will be fixed by bobo or Bigblah). After that, all that is needed is the album display page for the user, which I'm sure bobo will work on, if he hasn't already. There is currently no projected launch date, however, we're so far along in having this done that it would be foolish for this project not to be completed.

This sounds good then, what I wanted to verify is if things were advancing this time and if the project had chances of seeing the day, and it looks like it is the case.

I have another question: are the 2000 album entries only OST's, or also include info on soundtracks that were never released officially on CD (game rips & such)? Are these actually covered (not necessarily a specific game rip, but rather the info around the music, like who composed for a given game, in which year, on which system, etc.)?

Yes, it's okay to add game-rips, dojin and promotional albums, and other types of game music / music by VGM composers.

The infromation that we add is album title, catalog #, release date, release type, media format, number of discs, publisher, composer(s), arranger(s), performer(s), publisher website, release price, game title and platform(s). There's also a possibility to include additional, miscellaneous information. We also add song lyrics and upload album scans.

Actually, while dojins and promo albums are acceptable, game rips are not currently part of the database. There are fuzzy ideas on how those could be incorporated, and there's a category for 'GFF game rips', so that the content management system can handle the hosting of rips, but game rips are not currently being catalogued, as it's a whole different ballgame. If you've got some ideas though, we should definitely talk about them. In the meantime, if you're intersted (Rimo), I'll send you a PM and get you started tonight.
