router security/privacy help
i have the popular wireless linksys router
is it possible to have it hidden from other ppl in its range? also, whats the best security mode to set it to? WEP? any helps appreciated Jam it back in, in the dark. |
You can choose to hide its SSID, but that doesn't make it invisible.
As for encryption, WEP is obviously better than nothing, but if your router and clients support it, use WPA/WPA2 (AES) instead. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
should i do wpa/2 personal or enterprise?
also i hid the SSID, but when i disconnect, how do i reconnect (without it being in the list)? This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Also, in regards to WPA over WEP (and I mention this in every thread), if you have a NDS and use your router to connect, you HAVE to use WEP as the DS doesn't support WPA. And though I don't know about your WPA setup, likely I would say "enterprise" because typically business settings would require a higher security, which is why I say use that. WPA/WPA2 Enterprise requires a RADIUS server for 802.1X authentication. Somehow, I doubt you are willing to invest the time and money into a dedicated RADIUS server, so go with WPA Personal with PSK.
I was speaking idiomatically.
