New Half-Life Bundle (Ep 2/Portal/TF2)

Alright I got Q-Chan (thx) to change the thread title to reflect the new Valve bundle coming out for PC/PS3/360. It will contain Half-Life 2, Episode 1, Episode 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2.

Portal:
Move over Gravity Gun

http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/4650
or
http://www.gametrailers.com/player.p...pe=wmv&pl=game

Christ, could this look anymore awesome?

Team Fortress 2

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsTB6N8RuxI

Source Engine cartoony TF2? Agh! Looks like its worth the wait (I have a December 2000 PC gamer with a preview for TFC2 :\/)

Golly, what a bundle.

How ya doing, buddy?

No, I don't think it possibly could. The puzzles look insane, and the very definition of mind-bending. It somehow puts the gravity gun to shame. AND this game comes with Episode 2. Valve rocks so hard right now.

It's coming with Half-Life 2: Episode 2 and Team Fortress 2. Apparently, it's also set in the Half-Life universe.

But to get to the point, it looks awesome.

While Prey made nice use of portals, this will take full advantage of the concept, and should provide for lots of excellent (and hilarious) moments.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Holy crap.

EDIT: BTW if you have Steam, do yourself a favor and download the high-resolution version from their media delivery system. Amazing.

HD version is also available on gametrailers.com and stuff.

I have steam and all but its for HL1 and mods. When you purchase episode two, will TF2 come with it? Coming with TF2 / Portals seems like quite the rad package.

I wasn't that excited about episode one after I heard about the 7 hour max play time, but with TF2 rising from the grave, and this bunch of badassery coming out of nowhere, I'm sure to get episode 2.

I imagine that the price will go up, at least a little bit, though.

Indeed this game is looking awesome. Perhaps it's not the word

I know that some people complained of motion sickness in Prey, and Prey looks like a kiddie ride compared to this monster.

So get your barf bags ready, if you need one that is.

Though, I find the use of motion-blur to be interesting. It looks great of course, but does that mean that Portal will not be running at 60FPS? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think motion-blur can be achieved at that framerate.

It's a moot issue, but it is a contrast from the silky-smooth framerate of Half-Life 2.

It won't matter much if the frames are 30 or 60. As long as it's locked and never dips below the number, I don't see why anyone would care to take issue with it. They're just nitpicking at that point. Though, console users will probably be the only ones who have to "suffer" with 30 frames.

But it looks like there's more than just motion blur. Selective focus is also visible, from what I could see.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Eh, well...see if you raise the framerate you eliminate the motion blur because you're taking more "pictures" of the scene. Although I don't know if this would be the case in games since all motion blur is faked.

Actually, if I recall correctly, when using motion blur a higher framerate, like 60 frames, is more desirable. At least with video games.

... Unless I'm remembering that backwards, though I don't think so.

So I wonder whether and when valve will release utilities for people to make their own portal levels. I can easily see this turning into its own small corner of the internet given enough support.

It really looks amazing. Just imagine all the great puzzles they can make. Or, if incorporated into a "proper" game, the possibilities! Trapping an enemy in such a never ending row of portals, luring him into a portal, which leads into a pit of fire... Just wow!

What really floats my boat, however, is that Portal gets released on PS3 and Xbox 360 too. Yes!

Wow, that was great. Especially the endless falling bit. "THIS NEXT TEST IS IMPOSSIBLE". Nice use of motion blur, too!

Damn this game looks awesome! I'm secretly hoping this will motivate other developers to create more puzzle genred games since mindcrackers like this are fun. I guess it will never become as good like back in the 90s but who knows, maybe things will change

Needs to be used with deathmatch. I can imagine sending people to their doom by making them fall into a pit, or something.

This'd be fucking badass if folks got around to modding and making their own maps (which I'm sure will happen, knowing how Valve thinks). *ENDLESS* ;D

Anyone knows if there's a multiplayer portion to that game? I sure as hell hope so, but then I suppose that the physics simulations and even just rendering the world, could get somewhat complicated with 16 portals at once. I guess it all depends on how they code their engine; if they use various shortcut and make the one possible portal a special case or if they actually take their time to make the portals no different from any other object. Since we're talking about Valve here, and they usually deliver quality, not to mention make their stuff as easy to mod as possible, I'd lean toward the second option.

Still, that's absolutely amazing, and the gun apparently seems to be able to pick up stuff as the gravity gun can. Reminds me of something I once wanted to try; building a level with impossible geometry in Unreal Tournament, since the engine sorta supports portals. I guess I just might get the chance. Even better, I'll be able to do it in Worldcraft, which I've already used, unlike Unreal's map editor.

A small university has been developing this game for over ten years. Longer than Prey. I believe it was only released a couple years ago as Narbacular Drop. Valve most likely saw this, hired some of the original team, and decided to make a "sequel" of sorts.

TF2 will probably be the only multiplayer portion of the package.

Let's hope they resolve my Steam bug issue that means I haven't been able to buy/download anything they've released since the Lost Coast. Looks gorgeous, though!

I really hope you're wrong. It would be incredible in multiplayer. Especially with teams, where you could open a portal, then have someone else use his portal gun through your own to... well, do shit. I wonder what firing directly at someone else would do.

How incorrect you are! The video clearly tells you it's a "...handheld portal device....!" The gun certainly functions like a HL2 Gravity Gun, but this isn't HL2 that's being released here, no no no. Gravity Gun stays with HL2, Portal Device stays with Portal!

Anyway, the videos of this game's gameplay are a reminder of HL2's graphic engine at work. But the idea of how this game is played is quite impressive. It's yet another puzzle game slapped onto the face of this earth for us to tinker with, but ingeniously done. I'm looking forward to getting this game as I've grown immensly tired of playing FFXI....

Jam it back in, in the dark.
