Rainbow Islands
![]() IIT, RAINBOW ISLANDS Man this game brings back lots of memories. I loved it when I was younger, even though I wasn't the one who fell victim to it's everlasting gameplay. It was my mother. Yes, my mother likes to play this game. Often. EXCEPT she's been stuck on the 8th boss for the past 10+ years and hasn't managed to defeat it regardless of what she does. It's odd because she won't play the Genesis, PS1 or an emulated version which is EXACTLY THE SAME. She really loves it (along with a couple of other games) but only if they're for the Mastersystem. I've tried to hunt down a copy for her for awhile, as hers has no box nor manual, but no such luck. Surprisingly it's pretty hard to find now. So yeah, I heard you had to collect the gems in a certain order before you're allowed to unlock the secret levels. And if you've done so and pick up another gem, YOU'RE SCREWED. I'd always laugh at this because the arcade version went on forever. Something like, 50 levels across 10 or so islands. I never understood why this game was related to Bubble Bobble. It's slogan is "The Story of Bubble Bobble II" but they've managed to release another Bubble Bobble game seperate to this. I mean, a kid magically shooting enemies doesn't remind me of Bubble Bobble at all. Bubble Bobble on the DS is okay, as it has the original as well as some new fancy one. The original is great, I think. Unfortunately Rainbow Islands for the DS failed miserably because you actually need to draw the rainbows with the touchscreen, which is extremely annoying. I don't think there's much appeal here, even though it hasn't been released in america yet. Anyway, DISCUSS. Jam it back in, in the dark.

It's really quite an awesome super play in general, but also works for reference. Is it true Rainbow Islands Revolution turned out to be horrible? The cover looked so nice and all.. ![]() Most amazing jew boots ![]()

Revolution would have been ace if they actually bothered making the forced touch screen controls work. ;_; Trying to drag the main character around is difficult, like picking up an electrified mouse trap coated in jelly, he spazzes out all over the place! It's not time to dance little guy, we're supposed to be collecting ice creams and drawing threatening rainbows!
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Yeah, I didn't quite understand myself what the hell they were trying to do with the Rainbow Islands title for DS. I mean, there isn't even an original copy of the game in there. Drawing the rainbows with the touchscreen really wasn't the greatest idea in the world.
![]() I think this was the best release Taito has ever made. It has the arcade versions of Bubble Bobble, Rainbow Islands and a Ranbow Islands upgrade. Of course I don't bother with the upgrade, because it appears that upgrades of classic games almost never work (especially when it comes to Taito, it seems), but the original titles were nice. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I've got that for the Saturn. It's lazy the way they couldn't be bothered to put in a highscore table that saved on power down. Other TAITO conversions have suffered this, perhaps most rediculously: Darius Gaiden. A shoot-em-up with no high score table. Nice one fellas.
Oh yeah, more gripes: Apparently the Saturn/PS version of Rainbow Islands doesn't even contain the cool sounding secret islands. One is themed on Bubble Bobble, with Super Drunk as the boss! I say 'apparently' because after I reached the Robot island for the first time, and the game told me something to the effect of "Hello. You are playing too well so now we must cheat and take away your continues" I never touched that underhanded piece of shit game ever again. Good day, thread. I was speaking idiomatically. |
