Koopalings vs Bowser Jr.

What the hell is up with Bowser and all his childeren?

I mean:
7 Koopalings (from Mario 3, Super Mario World and Mario & Luigi SSS)
Bowser JR.(from Mario Sunshine, Various Mario sports games and New Super Mario Bros)
Various Koopa Kids(From Mario Party)

Will we ever know the connection between all these kids?
Will we ever know how he got all these kids? Magic or does Koopa actually have game?
Will we ever see the Koopalings again?
Which do you prefer the Koopalings or Bowser Junior(or maybe a combination of all of them)?
Also who is your favorite Koopa child?

Post you thoughts!

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I'm going to vote Bowser Jr. because I fucking hate you whiners. Koopalings were pretty shitty bosses anyway. Not that Bowser Jr. is much better but at least the main games he was in had Yoshi's Island-esque bosses. I wouldn't trade that in anyday for some lame battles with Bowser's cousins or children or whatever the fuck relation they were to him. The only good they did was make annoying sing-a-longs for the Super Mario World TV show. I mean I liked the Koopa Kids in Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga and for that game I think they might have been robots or something, I can't recall correctly, but anyway beyond that a big ol' MEH I COULD CARE LESS GET ON WITH YOUR LIVES PEOPLE.

Double Post:
Oh and my favorite ones were the clones that got knocked off the mode-7 rotation shell into the lava WHERE THEY THEN GOT BOILED IN LAVA.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I agree with Acer, there's nothing special about the Koopalings. The love everyone seems to have for them is unwarranted in my opinion.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

My first thought seeing Bowser JR: Where the fuck are the Koopalings? They were public enemy #1-7 back in the Nintendo glory days (especially Wendy and Roy in Mario 3...Lemmy sort of gave me problems until I found out I could jump on the circus balls). I mean, that's 7 easy Mario Kart/Mario Party/Smash Brothers/whatever characters at least, on top of being cool bosses. No reason not to have them back full time.

Oh shit, they were in SSS! Damn, I need to get working on that one...

Koopa Kids 4 Lyfe.

My favorite: Either Roy or Lemmy.

It's better now that they are all one person in Bowser Jr to keep it simpler. The fact that a lot of people don't like him makes him a good boss to beat as well. Bowser Jr is pretty much perfect.

Maybe the koopalings would fit well in a Sonic Team game.

The Koopalings and Bowser Jr. both present horribly boring boss battles, bring back Wart, Trannie Egg Face and everyone else from Mario 2, now those were bosses! :dopey_love:

I liked the Koopa Kids personas on the Mario cartoons. Kootie was stuck up. Hip & Hop were like twins and finished each others sentances. Bully was a bully. Kookie was an inventor. Cheatsie cheated people. Big mouth talked a lot - and fast.

The Mario 3 cartoon used nick names instead of the ones from Mario 3 though.

Whoever did the voice for Big Mouth (loool stupid cartoon renaming everyone) was a legend. I bet he got a lot of saliva all over the microphone, maybe even drowning the studio.

How can you people like Bowser Jr?

Anyway, the reason why the cartoon Koopalings had stupid names was because at that time, they never had names. Their names in SMB 3 actually were named by NOA, not NOJ. Of course, they could've chosen BETTER names for these guys for the cartoon, but oh well. Too late now!

Larry's the best, by the way.

How ya doing, buddy?

VS.

There are only two decent Koopalings: Larry and Lugwig Von. The rest are just ugly, awkward looking creatures and shouldn't be worthy of any praise. Bowser Jr. is a masterpiece in comparison. End of story.

I'd also like to mention that New Super Mario Bros is ten times the game SMB3 is and craps on it from a great height in every way possible.

lol Bowser Jr.

I like how they got all lazy and just decided to use a Yoshi's Island character as the sidekick mascot for Bowser for the rest of their games. The Koopa Kids, while some might be ugly, did at least bring in some personality and character into a world where Mario and Wario and Luigi and Waluigi and Peach and Daisy and Toad and Toadette exists. Now instead of Bowser and seven unique Koopa Kids, we have Bowser and Bowser Jr. Bleh.

Also a hearty lol to NSMB being better than SMB3. They are about on par unfortunately, and only because of newer hardware allowing for more interactivity with Mario and his surroundings. I would give my soul for a "new" Super Mario Bros. 3 in a heartbeat.

LOL. I love how you say Nintendo got lazy, then you praise the use of Waluigi and Toadette, who are both minor spin-off characters at best. Bowser Jr. is more a part of the Mario universe than Waluigi and Toadette will ever be, he is a part of the main story, he has a purpose. He wasn't just added in for an extra unlockable character in Mario Kart.

I'm for Koopalings as well. First because of my own personal bias toward large organizations and gangs vs one or two villains/foils, but also Bowser Jr's such a snotnosed dink. "Wah, wah, Mario's a bad man, I want my mommy..." Please. Grow a wand and take over a kingdom, for God's sake.

On another note, did anyone notice that the Koopalings effectively made their father's name Morton Bowser? Also, screw the cartoon; the COMICS are where the Koopalings came alive.

Until there's an option for Kamek I'm not voting. Superior SMW character in all forms.

He's probably related to Bowser somehow though, since those kind appear to work under him.

I enjoy how everyone is baseing their love for the Koopalings/ Koopa Kids/ Koopa Cousins/ whatevers on comics and tv shows. That's all they were good for. Based on what they did with them for those mediums could they have done likewise for the games? They could have but they didn't. They're pathetic bosses in-game where it fucking counts and you people are all blind for not admitting it. While much like Boom Boom from Mario 3 Bowser Jr. has some interesting variety that you can predict based on how he is wearing his bandana. A subtlety that the Koopalings are lacking with their predictable boring behavior in both Mario 3 and Super Mario World. Give Bowser Jr. a wooden airship and the Koopalings are complete shit.

If Nintendo could take the Koopalings, make them and Bowser Jr. somehow fit together in a story (like having Bowser Jr. as the eighth Koopling as wiki seems to believe him to be), and have them actually be cool bosses like in M&L:SSS then I'd be fine but that hasn't happened in their platforming history.

Double Post:
Elixir, Kamek is fucking awesome. That dude must be ageless because he's been there since Bowser was a Baby. He's the cause of all the fucking awesome bosses in Yoshi's Island. <3 Kamek so much.

I don't <3 Kamek when he turns blocks into badguys though. I always hit those things and die.

For a while Kamek was going to be in Mario Kart 64 but then they replaced him with either Donkey Kong or Wario (I can't recall which). He flies on a broom anyway.

The guy also carries with him probably all history of the Mushroom Kingdom too since he's Bowser's guardian. He's very interesting.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

You don't seem to have understood Kostaki's post at all.
He just gives these as examples for the (recent) lack of originality in Nintendo character designer's heads.

And that's the exact reason for me voting for the Koopalings: They were just far more likeable and creative than Bowser Jr. Not to mention the nostalgic feelings I have everytime I think about fighting them as a child.

Will we ever know the connection between all these kids?
Given that Nintendo doesn't give a crap about the overall storyline in the Mario series - I bet 'no'.
Will we ever know how he got all these kids? Magic or does Koopa actually have game?
We could consult one of the strategy guides. "Mario Mania" has a SMB3 portion AFAIK and it even has an official interview with Myamoto-san. It would be the most reliable source.
Will we ever see the Koopalings again?
I'd so hope to see them return in Galaxy but it's just highly unlikely...
Also who is your favorite Koopa child?
My personal favourites are Lemmy (I could never beat him in SMW when I was a child) and Wendy O. Gotta love their design.

Good thing it was so much fun to chase Bowser Jr. with a water pistol while he was dressed up as a Mario clone. -_-"
More tolerance, please, Acer. To each his own.

I hate bowser jr. I hate how he is all the koopalings in one because I'd rather see a different boss than the same boss with a different move. True the koopalings are pretty boring bosses, but they could bring them back and reinvent their attacks. I want to see them in a 3d Mario, one that doesn't involve hats or squirt guns but instead has mushrooms, fire flowers, and kuribo's shoe... sigh

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I really don't think that a boss has to be awesome for you to like them. I like the Koopalings because, like Prime Blue said, the Koopalings are loads more creative than Bowser Jr, who just looks like a Bowser reject, just like how Wario and Waluigi look like Mario and Luigi rejects. At least the last two look somewhat different, though. Bowser Jr. just looks stupid, and unlike Bowser, he's not cool at all. Alas.

P.S. I played and won NSMB and the boss battles with Bowser Jr. aren't very much different from the Koopaling battles. In fact, all the battles with him are just variations of the same battle on world 1. The whole tilting log over lava thing is similar to the Koopaling battles from SMW.

P.S. SMW > NSMB > SMB3

You can merge the cartoon names and call them this:

Larry "Cheatsie" Koopa
Morton "Big Mouth" Koopa Jr.
Wendy "Kootie Pie" O Koopa
Ludwig "Kookie" Von Koopa
Roy "Bully" Koopa
Iggy "Hip" Koopa
Lemmy "Hop" Koopa

Jesus christ, what is wrong with you people.

Bowser Jr. is godawful DULL, the koopakids were great. Who cares if they weren't the most challenging boss fights ever, they were STILL better than Bowser Jr.

Baby Bowser was funny because, well, he's baby Bowser against baby Mario. Bowser Jr. just makes absolutely no sense at all and being virtually identical to Baby Bowser, is just horribly dull character design.

The reason why Baby & Jr. exist is because they wanted to add more characters to be able to pick from in games like Mario Kart Double Dash, Mario Golf Toadstool Tour, Mario Tennis Power Tour, etc.

They could not simply add one Koopa kid and leave all the rest out. I do hate how we don't see the koopa kids anymore but you have to figure thats why Jr and baby exist.

So why couldn't they just create original characters instead of copies of existing ones? Heck, even their names are similiar. I mean, we have Bowser Jr. Wario, Waluigi, Toadette...blah. Nintendo needs some more creativity.

AcerBandit has a point on how the removal of the Koopalings gave way to more variations to bosses. And from a practical standpoint of view, I agree with AcerBandit's point.

However I still wish the Koopalings still made their way back to the Mario realm for the future where as they appear as sub bosses or something. Or maybe Nintendo may do something more innovative with them since they seem to be hip with inoovation lately.

I voted Koopalings as I rather enjoyed the varation and background of each koopaling.
