I hope you take your gameshow hosts short and fat.
Because Drew Carey is confirmed as the new host of The Price is Right!
It would be impossible to please everyone with a new host short of cloning Bob Barker, but it looks like Mr. Carey is going to have to do. He is a comedian and does have history in improv so that will probably suit him as a host. Although I've never been a Drew Carey fan when I think about the type of person he seems to be he'll probably do pretty well in the role. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I could think of far worse. He doesn't exactly have the radio DJ background that Bob had, but I feel like it's a smart move to purposely find someone who isn't going to attempt to "be" Bob.
I still expect ratings to drop significantly. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Or both? This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
A bit from Column A.
A bit from Column B. Basically, America grew up on Bob Barker; he's the face of morning entertainment. And senior citizens are TPIR's core demographic. Seniors can be pretty stubborn and also fiercely loyal. I wonder if replacing Barker is tantamount to sacrelige for a good portion of the elderly. No matter what they do the spice the show up - not that they should even attempt to deviate from the original sets or formula - I feel as though a lot of people will reject Drew Carey on principle, not for what he is, but rather, what Carey isn't. He's a funny guy, in that "geeky best friend" way, but he doesn't possess the warmth and charm of Barker. The show is apt to feel empty with Bob's machismo spilling all over the stage. The show's gonna be on a tight leash between sponsors and ratings. It's no longer the anchor of the morning lineup; TPIR has to prove itself all over again. I just hope they sack that horrible announcer who replaced Rod Roddy. He has absolutely no character in his voice. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Rod Roddy was replaced? Man, if I still watched that show, I'd stop.
I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() John Mayer just asked me, personally, through an assistant, to sing backup on his new CD. |
I don't find anything funny about Drew Carey. In "Whose Line" he's far from the funniest. And the same goes with his show. But that's just my personal bias against his humor. About him hosting, I could really care less. Does anyone really watch that show these days? It does have that terrific 70s appeal.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Thank freakin God. He's funny, he's young, and out of all the possible hosts that have been rumored to do it, this one was the best. Drew Carey, you were the best possible choice to keep The Price is Right alive and going. Rosie would have killed it for sure.
How ya doing, buddy? |
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
His stand up is some of the dirtiest around...don't let those glasses fool you. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
