Where does Golden Sun stack up in your fav RPG series?

Golden Sun is one of the best RPG series I've ever played. I don't think it gets enough recognition. Even though it's a short two game series, IMO, it's as good as any series out there. I enjoyed the hell out of both games and couldn't put them down. It was just so much fun to play and the battles were fun too. I just loved everything about Golden Sun and wish they made more games in the series.

It's definitely in my top 10 favorite RPG series ever. That's how much I enjoyed it.

What are your thoughts on Golden Sun?

I love the Golden Sun games. I've never completed either of them but i did enjoy what i played of them. I think the graphics are fantastic for a portable console and just everything about it wowed me in general. It's a nice little story going on as well and not just pretty graphics which is what i like to see. The battle system was also, as you said, pretty damn fun. Love them

Ahh yes. The GBA perfection RPG. I call crap on Megaman Battle Networks. I could never get into or enjoy those kidified games. Sure you're a grade school student in it, but *Christ* did it get embarassing to play at times >_< And the characters looked goofy as hell.

Golden Sun was done by Camelot (Shining Force gods) along with its sequel. Great graphics. Great story. Great, innovative gameplay. I loved the Djinn system along with the puzzles on dungeon overheads. The powers made things fun, to boot =) Never owned a GBA. But I think I'll buy Golden Sun 1 & 2 so I can play them on my DS.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I thought it was pretty traditional stuff...Straight-up turn based battles, some puzzles, very stock characters. I played through part of GS1 and never got back to it. It wasn't bad...Just nothing really special that demanded my time.

Great music though and it did give the GBA something it needed: A good original "traditional" RPG.

I only played the first one since I was looking for an RPG for the GBA at the time. I thoroughly enjoyed the game, but never really felt the need to try the sequel. The game was short though but it managed to hold my interest.

Golden Sun 1 was fairly average. It was a too traditional, too short, and ended all too abruptly. Golden Sun 2, on the other hand, was fantastic. Once you have all 8 characters and a crapload of Djinn, that's when things get really interesting (and at that point the level of customization is high enough that the 2 player battles are actually worth it). Its extra bosses are also some of the hardest I've ever seen, particularly Dullahan.

Why the hell is Golden Sun 1 in a box so damn hard to find? ;_; Everywhere I've looked just says "ONLY HAVE CARTRIDGE FOR MONEYS". Amazon had one guy with it in factory wrap but that was $150. Quite overpriced. The sequel, though, is quite easy to find. Any ideas on where I could purchase the first one, though? I've checked half & ebay plus did a run on Google

Wow, I didn't know the first game was all that rare, its a shame I didn't take better care of my original packaging. That said, I really enjoyed both Golden Sun and its sequel (which could really just be considered a continuation of the first.) It had great graphics, a really cool (and most importantly) original battle system, as well as some really challenging side quests and bosses (in the second game at least.) I honestly think that game would have been better received if both parts were released as one, as they both only really work when played in sequence. Overall, this is a classic, (but modern RPG) that plays like something from the SNES era. I really wish more games were developed using this approach.

I picked up Golden Sun one day and played halfway through it and never picked it up again. I don't know why, really.. I enjoyed the battle system quite a bit, but the characters and storyline in general were pretty generic and I soon lost interest. I might pick it up again someday.

Golden Sun was above what I expected from a GBA title, since it ran me about...twenty hours to beat it? Thirty? Regardless, a fun battle system with good graphics, a story sufficient enough to keep moving through the motions, and okay music despite the tinny speaker. The characters were the only downside, seeing that they never got above their stereotypes.

The second half of the game just felt too long, probably because of the time needed to travel around in your ship while collecting random items to pass some obstacle. It really lost the story until the latter half, where it improved enough to be passable. Other than that gripe, it retained the same fun of the previous title. I just wonder why they bothered with the silent protagonist when both Felix and Isaac had lines in the games they didn't lead in. Seemed a lazy descision by the developers.

Golden Sun was all right, but I felt it was pretty much cookie cutter. For a GBA RPG, it's awesome, but nothing in it really piqued my interest as being unique.
I read that there's sort of a twist in the second one, as if playing from a certain viewpoint or something.

My first GBA game was Golden Sun, and it still is one of my favourite games of all time. It's such a shame there wasn't a third game, though, but I guess it's good that the series ended when it reached its climax. Both Golden Sun games have such great graphics, storylines and music (thanks to Motoi Sakuraba).

I'm sure most people would agree with me saying if Golden Sun being remade for, say, the DS, would be a wonderful idea. It'd sell like crazy. And those Sakuraba tunes redone..? That'd be severely awesome.

GBA's top line original RPG series. I hope for a Golden Sun DS or something.

Consequently, Camelot is my favorite video game company aside from Nintendo. The following are a list of reasons why Camelot rules:

GS 1+2
Shining Force 1-3 + CD
Shining the Holy Ark
Mario Golf
Mario Tennis

+1 - this is dead-on. I supposed if you didn't have any other consoles, it would be a great game compared to other GBA/GB rpg's, but for me there was no reason to play it instead of Shadow Hearts, Dragon Quest VIII, BoF V, etc. Still, it had a certain charm to it, but based on its simple gameplay I would say this is a necessity and not a bonus...

I personally was rather bored with the first Golden Sun. the story was uninteresting, characters were boring, and combat could get a little tedious near the end of the game. It's probably just me, but I thought that the game was a little bit too traditional. I haven't played the second one for more than half an hour, so I'll withold my comments for that one.

I played Golden Sun on the emulator, but when I couldn't figure out how to transfer the save from the first game to the second, I didn't attempt to play the second. =\ I thought it was a good game, but definitely not on par with current RPG standards (story and characters). The gameplay was extremely fun, especially with those weird puzzles and all. The Djinn system was also interesting. And the best part is the music, even for Gameboy Advance.
