Monster.com - Any of you use this before?

I'm looking for a job/internship this summer, but I haven't had time to go around and job hunt. A friend of mine told me about monster.com, but I'm not really familiar with it. Do any of you have experience with this service? I'd love to hear some people's opinions before I post my information on the website for everyone to see.

How ya doing, buddy?

Never used it m'self. My older brother used it but it didn't help him at all. He got a job as a Mechanical Engineer through a friend my oldest brother had.

I just typed in "Geophysics". The job layout is very similar to www.usajobs.com except I'm sure that a lot of these are contractor or company jobs as opposed to gov't oriented.

Employers really like the folks who go out and meet them at career fairs and what-not. Nothing against internet applicants, but direct appearance right before them is more admirable in their eyes, often. But some of the time, online application is the only option. I'd say do it whether prospects look good or bad. If you're heading into the job market, even just for internship, having lots of extra folks reading your credentials and resume is always a good thing.

If you're concerned about privacy, I wouldn't worry. Only employers can peruse your information. And only ones that you apply to. You upload your resume and if they are curious, after your request for employment/interview is sent (through some option I'd imagine), they can view your resume and information.

There's nowhere I can't reach.
Hey, maybe you should try that thing Chie was talking about.

I personally have never used monster.com but I know people who have. Your best bet if you're new in the market is to take advantage of your college's career center and ask them how do I find a summer internship/job. There should be many resources available and websites they can give you. Also, career fairs are great ways to get your resume out and network.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Monster is how I got my current job. Either that or Dice.com; can't remember. Anyway, it's pretty sweet.

Same here. I used Monster.com to obtain my current job. I still get emails form them every once in a while saying they found another job match for me :/

Anyway it is a good resource for a job search.

Tried it before - one legitimate interview.

The other 500 responses I got were from work from home scams, and companies wanting me to sell herbal Viagra on commission only with no hourly wage. Your mileage may vary. I would definitely try the tried and true methods of career centers, newspapers, and asking around first.

I use Monster.com all the time. I got two of my past jobs that way. It's a great service. It even has another service for college students that I just became aware of last week. It can find internships, seasonal, part-time, and full-time work for you in your area.
