That Reminds Me Of...

Whenever you see a deck of cards, are you reminded of your old Uncle Tom? Do you think of that awesome summer you had a couple years ago whenever you see a pitchfork? What things bring back memories for you?

The song, Besame Mucho, has been stuck in the back of my mind for ages. Back when I was in first or second grade, I was obsessed with outer space. In fact, I had wanted to be an astronaut. Back then, I used to check out every book I could find about space at the library. Well, one day, I was reading a certain book when I came across a passage about the end of the world when the sun would burn out and the planets would get swallowed up by a black hole. Of course, at that age, I was pretty scared at that notion. This is where that song comes in. It was playing in the background as I was reading that book. Ever since then, I would get this sinking feeling in my stomach every time I hear that song. I still do!

Also, the song Small of Two Pieces reminds me of ceramic tiles, grout, and skirts. We redid the floors last summer, and that was the time when I listened to this song quite often. I still can't break the connection between that song and those tiles! And the skirts-- that was because I wore skirts for most of the summer.

Believe it or not, I'm not going to mention a song this time! Back in elementary school, I used to know this one girl, who was probably the best friend I had ever had. For her birthday, I attempted to make her a dreamcatcher, but that didn't work out too well. I ended up giving her something else, but whenever I think of dreamcatchers, I'm reminded of her.

I wasn't quite sure if this thread belonged in the Quiet Place or General Discussion, so I just decided to put it here.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Certain specific weather conditions bring back strong memories I've had of days under the same weather conditions. However, I must say, the memories and those days are overall trivial; they don't really hold even any personal significance, they're simply there in my head.

Honestly I don't know of any objects that bring back strong memories. Just weather conditions.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

In my case, it's not objects, but smells that triggers old memories. And, like Eleo's, those memories usually are trivial.

I can get awfully nostalgic just by recognizing the smell of a certain house or area, or by sensing a similar odor to the one that was somehow linked with that memory.

I don't have an Uncle Tom.

You've now formed within me a disassociative gap between playing cards and ethereal phantoms of possibilities that never came into being. At the merest suggestion of euchre or rummy, I enter a deep fugue, only to emerge several minutes later, disoriented and mistrustful of the world around me. Nothing makes sense. Rational logic no longer applies!

I feel like a Republican.

I hope you're happy.

I reunite all of the three elements mentioned. Be it a song, a weather condition, a smell, or a certain kind of lighting, it makes me remember stuff.

Certain songs always remind me of various people or events in my past. Sometimes it's a positive feeling, but other times I may end up disliking a song because of what I associate it with.

Whenever I see a Robin Williams film I see, in my mind, a picture of him naked, on a toilet, eating from a bucket of KFC.

I think it was in a MAXIM issue or something, I don't know. Regardless, it really freaks me out, and as a result I've lost all interest in one our generations funniest men. Curses.

This is true for me too. However, these songs (even instrumental songs) remind me of things events that should not be associated with these songs. I mean, at the actual time of the memory, it would have been impossible to hear these songs, yet somehow these songs take me back to places I had forgotten.

I mostly make a lot of associations of memories with smells.
When I smell the strange combination of Dial soap, Now and Laters, and a small dusty room, I immediately think of the computer game "Clouds of Xeen."

For me, it's usually smells that bring back vivid memories. For example, just a couple of weeks ago I went to my mom's best friend's house for the first time in about half a year. Immediately after getting a whiff of the inside of her house, I was thrust back in time to a summer day years ago when her daughter and I were watching Sailor Moon.

Several other smells take me back. Cigar smoke always reminds me of one of my dad's old friends, the smell of vanilla perfume reminds me of the Spice Girls (I wore it back when I was obsessed with them), and the smell of my great-grandmother's house reminds me of the night that my great-grandfather died.

This one's a little weirder, but the taste of chicken pizza always reminds me of The Legend of Dragoon because I practically lived off of it back when I first played through the game.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

The song Clown Strike by Elvis Costello reminds me of that 7up game on SNES, Cool Spot, where you play as the red dot (I recall the music may have been similar). And the smell of dentist drills reminds me of starfox 64, because he had an N64 in the waiting room, and for some reason it had everything unlocked.

Movies bring back memories. I'm not sure why, as I wasn't a huge fan of movies, but I remember what I was doing when I was watching the movie with my dad, or with a friend...

Otherwise, I just remember things and at random times, it comes back to me.

A bunch of things bring back my memories. Because I'm kinda uber-sentimental, I've hoarded a lot of my shit from the past 21 years of my life (meaning they're around my house somewhere, attic/crawl space/some closet). This mainly just includes toys and games, books, video tapes, weird stuffs, old doodles, various mementos, old schoolwork... I'll run into these things once in a while, or something will come up in my life that'll make we wanna dig up the stuff. A few weeks ago, one of my friends went on a basketball card buying spree, including the purchase of 50+ Michael Jordan cards. This made me dig up my old collection, of sports cards in general, (as well as a bunch of other people's) so we could check 'em out. [My Joe Montana set is legendary]. Also stumbled onto a ginormous collection of Pokemon cards too...

Same friend also pretty much bought every classic gaming console ever too. Not much memories for me though since I have all my old ones set up to still play whatever whenever wherever *goes off into that one Shakira song...*

A couple of times in class, I would just start laughing. When asked why I'm laughing, it would be because I just remembered something funny from way back... or because I remembered a time I started laughing about something when I remembered something that happened way back. Wow.

this happens to me, too. I can be in school, and for whatever reason I smell something that reminds me of when I went to day camp when I was younger.

Certain food smells bring back memories of my old neighborhood where I grew up. I remember times I used to hang around outside and played with the flowers in the yard. I remember all the crazy things I used to do, like putting up two umbrellas on top of a blanket and watching the rain fall. Ahh, great memories.

Every time I see or hear someone talk about Chuckee Cheese it reminds of the first time I made it to 3rd base because I was in a Chuckee Cheese parking lot with this chick. Every time I hear a Coldplay song I think of an old girlfriend as well because it was her favorite band. Im sure there are tons of others but they are the kind of things I dont recognize unless I see/hear them :P

Certain songs bring back very vivid and distinct memories. When I play "Hitorijime", from Card Captor Sakura, I have intense flashbacks of working in UnrealEd. I even see the placement of the windows and what level I was working on.

That's sort of the same with me. I have a huge box of junk spanning from my infant years up until now because I never know when I'm going to want to dig through that box. Yes, I even have trivial worksheets from first grade. 5 dimes equals 50 cents!

I did that once...during a math exam.
