MP4 Video Conversion Problem

I've been trying to use ImToo DVD to iPod converter version 4 to try and rip some DVD's to play on my iPod, but I've been having the following problem: when I playback the video file the entire screen is white, except for some yellow pixels where edges are on the original. However, when I set the brightness (in Quicktime) up by one, everything is normal. I have no idea what causes this. It also happens when playing back some videos I downloaded (using a firefox extension that lets you get them in that format) from Google Video.

System is:
HP Pavilion zd7000
Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2
Intel Pentium 4 3.00 GHz
512 MB RAM
nVidia GeForce FX Go5200

Quicktime and iTunes are the latest versions.
(Oh, and I forgot to mention earlier that playback works with videos I purchased from iTunes) Thank you!

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Thanks for the help, but I actually solved the problem while waiting around for a response. I had to wade through a bunch of useless DVD converters before I found handbrake, and now everything is perfect. Thank you for helping, though. I really appreciate it!

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
