Processor and motherboard question.

I am replacing my Intel D915PBL out since one of the power plugs on the power supply melted (see this journal entry for more info) but the 915P chipset is only available on 4 motherboards on Newegg. Do I have to stick with the 915P chipset with a Socket T Pentium 4 with Hyper-Threading with a 1MB L2 cache and a 800MHz FSB?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

No you can use any chipset that supports the LGA775 socket. The 925 and 955 are the two popular chipsets right now. You might also want to consider spending the extra money on a 975x board as they support both Core Duo 2 and P4 processors. At least your motherboard will be upgrade proof for a few more years.

There's nowhere I can't reach.
