WinRAR 3.51 is free!

Pretty frickin' sweet if you ask me. I like WinRAR compared to most other compression programs because of it's size and compatibility.

Only this specific version is free due to the special promotion. It doesn't span to any other version. Also, use the link someone provided in the comments of that news post, because www.win-rar.com is getting hammmmmarrred!

Bodomi Jul 30, 2006 03:25 PM

That's awesome.
I really like WinRAR's "add each file to seperate archive" feature. I used it to compress some ROMs.
Also, it seems like my version of WinRAR is much older than the one provided, I guess it's time to update... :)

Thanks for posting that Render, would have missed that otherwise.

Yeah. Note that this offer is for today (July 30th) ONLY!

Who cares?

No honestly, 7-Zip has been around for some time now, which is free, unpacks every relevant format, offers shell integration and a pretty efficient (open-source) compression algorithm, namely 7z. Why do people cling to a proprietary program with its primary distinction being annoying shareware messages or the need for a crack? (Safe for this one-time offer, of course.)

Roph Jul 30, 2006 04:23 PM

Won't the installer install a registered version anyway, no matter what date you run the installer?

Because RAR is easily alot more widely used than 7z. If you were after the absolute best compression then just go for UHARC.

There's still *.zip for light and *.tar.gz for high compression - which are both supported by all major archivers, I believe.

Duminas Jul 30, 2006 05:58 PM

I'm kind of curious what makes you think tar.gz is "high" compression, since in all my experience with the archive (`tar -czf` and friends), the compression has been almost identical to what a ZIP provides, with RAR being far ahead of that.

Though, that may just be me, and I can't find any benchmarks to back up or demolish that claim.

Well that's crap. I tried getting the program and the website is down :( Someone should upload it for the rest of us :3

....

Oh, we are offering the WinRAR 3.51 single user license non upgradeable version this Sunday the 30th of July 2006 from 00:00 until 24:00 CET for absolutely FREE.

So what time is that in EST???

Little Shithead Jul 30, 2006 06:37 PM

Download the attachment Roph posted. I believe that's what they have you download, and it installs a full, registered copy of WinRAR.

Freelance Jul 30, 2006 06:42 PM

O...M...G. I never even noticed the attachment >_<

I feel stupid now.

P.S. Wow, have I got an old copy of Winrar! It's time for an update!

RPG Maker Aug 2, 2006 02:12 AM

Wow didn't realize I had a older version. Been such along time since I installed it but I use it alot and really never saw the need but here is a nice time to upgrade =P

subferno Aug 2, 2006 07:48 PM

Thanks for the post, I missed the free offer as well.

Darkon Aug 16, 2006 09:38 PM

Yeah, awesome! Thank you.

cocomonk22 Aug 19, 2006 04:48 AM
