This Video Card Any Good?

CLICKY

Currently I got a ATI RADEON XPRESS 200 Series (ATI RADEON XPRESS 200 Series (0x5954)) and it's a SHARED videocard so it's really annoying....

I think the price is pretty good for the above deal, but being a newbie I am in computers I have no clue if it's direct/shared or if that video card is any good... can someone advice me?

Render Jul 29, 2006 10:33 PM

It's a vast improvement over any onboard, but it's nothing to scream about. Can your motherboard support a PCI-Express graphics card?

I'm not a big fan of Diamond. The card isn't great at all. I would grab a 6600GT before this thing.

Tsunade Jul 30, 2006 01:00 AM

Yeah but the price for 6600GT 128MB is $319.95... the diamond 512 is $120 that's a HUGE price difference... so it's no good then? What's the extend it can handle? (like what kinda games is it's limit)... btw can you tell if it's a shared or direct video card?

Sharath Jul 30, 2006 01:43 AM

Well where i stay we get "Forsa Geforce 7600 GS" its price is 155 $ (7000INR)..and its performance is better than 6600 GT.

Your Xpress 200M graphics card is shared memory (it doesn't have it's own video RAM,so it uses your system's RAM) because it's built into the motherboard. Practically every video card saleable has dedicated video RAM (it won't use your system's RAM for graphics rendering.)

TheReverend Jul 30, 2006 04:19 AM

Yes... Render is right with Sharath being more right. 7600 is the way to go. If they have a GT model, that's the one to buy. If that is too expensive, I recommend this X850 Crossfire for $139 direct from ATI. MUCH better performance/dollar than any 6600GT and probably even the 7600GT. And if that still is too expensive, well, get a job... JK :D Actually in that case, then just buy pretty much any ole bargain bin card you can find and suck it up.

But as I said Render is right on. The performance that you would get out of a X1300 512MB card is marginal at best. But infinitely better than onboard graphics.

And stop looking at Futureshop.

Tsunade Jul 30, 2006 07:29 PM

How about these?

their prices are relatively the same...

@futureshop lol, the only electronic store I know of other than best buy which is the same really

TheReverend Jul 30, 2006 08:23 PM

Listen, the reason I recommended the X850 Crossfire Card, is that it is a 16 pixel-pipeline card while every other card you have linked is a 12 pixel-pipe card. Now pixel-pipes dont mean everything, but comparing a X850 Crossfire to a X1600 PRO is absurd. The X800GTO is also a 12 pixel-pipe card too. And not as good as the one I linked. We can go round this all day, but that honestly is a much better buy than anything in the same price bracket!

Tsunade Jul 31, 2006 10:45 AM

K lets say I go with the X850 Crossfire Card it requires a 500 watts min... My computer only has a 300 watts power supply.... where do you recommend I get a 500 watts power supply (if it's min doesn't that mean I need more than just 500?)

Render Jul 31, 2006 02:08 PM

I believe www.tigerdirect.ca is based in Ontario. Or check www.ncix.com. These are pretty much the best online shops in Canada.

A 500W power supply will be plenty for your needs. Unless you plan on running two of those X850s at once, you will probably never need more than a 500W.

The one you linked is not as good.

Did you receive an invoice? like through email or something? They have a very limited supply of the products listed on there refurb/clearance section, so I suspect they sold out of this card. Who knows, you might have bought the last one :). If they did send you a receipt/invoice then you should have nothing to worry about.

Render Aug 9, 2006 01:01 PM

Where did you buy from? NCIX? You should send their customer support a ticket (email). I bought a card reader once and found it disappeared from their site. They responded with being completely dumbfounded and offered to fix the mistake by sending me the new model.

Tsunade Aug 9, 2006 01:23 PM

They said that it was discontinued and that they don't know when it will be in stock and I don't have that time to wait, do any of you know where i can get a similar video card.... not sure why they'd discontinue it- they have OLDER versions there (I hope it's not 'cause there's something wrong or something)... god and they have no clue when they'll get some in for the shipping....

Tsunade Sep 8, 2006 01:56 PM

SRY for the double post 'cause it's been a while since the last post and it's kinda far into XX page

@Dayvon those pricks made me wait for over a month and now they cancel my order since it's out of stock OMG...

so now what's your next suggestion? I need a pci express

TheReverend Sep 9, 2006 01:48 AM

This would do nicely if you are looking for cheap @ $119

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102688

Otherwise, this X1900XTX @ $340 is a steal as well.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowIm...o+Card+%2D+OEM

If you insist on going green, here is a 7900GT @ $265

Tsunade Sep 9, 2006 01:45 PM

Newegg doesn't ship to Canada- I called them :(

TheReverend Sep 9, 2006 04:20 PM

Damn.... uh can you find any of these cards at Canadian websites?

Tsunade Sep 13, 2006 11:06 PM

I only know two canadian friendly sites, tigerdirect and cmix.com

I think this one's good...

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...Tab=2&NoMapp=0
^It says "You Save $552.00"- why is that I wonder....

mogge Sep 14, 2006 08:25 AM
