regedit problems
1 Attachment(s)
Ok I'm trying to get my friend to do some regedit shit so he can play FF8 which he downloaded. When he goes to start > run and types in regedit and enters he gets this message. Any one know how to fix this?

Is he typing "regedit.com" in the Run console??
|
It looks as if regedit.exe is the 16-bit version found in older versions of Windows (there is only one in XP.) Try having him run regedt32.exe and see if that works for him. If he is running Windows XP, then this will require a bit more research to fix.

If it dosen't work, make sure he is running the right program. The actual executable path in XP should be E:\WINDOWS\regedit.exe. If it is not there, than he should unpack a known good version of the app from the XP CD. And Regedt32 is a slightly different version of the same application which was originally designed to run as a 32 bit variant of the applicaion which provided additional functionality under Windows NT/2000. In Windows XP, this program still exists but simply runs regedit.exe.

Ok it seemed it worked when he went to the E:\WINDOWS and clicked the regedit icon. Thanks for the help.

Your friends should check what this regedit.com file is about - apparently it has its home in the system32-directory, which could indicate a virus/trojan/etc.
