Web of Music: The Definitive Guide To Internet Music
Let’s pretend for a few minutes that there is actually music out there that doesn’t suck. Now let’s also pretend that a concept like “internet radio” has also been invented. Are we there yet?
Good. Now post and/or discuss your favorite internet radio stations. Indie or Mainstream; it doesn’t matter. I’d like to compile an index of stations available so that we may all enjoy a variable cornucopia of what’s available if only we look hard enough. |
For starters the BBC internet radio has a huge selection of stuff, the vast majority of it being available on demand or you can listen live.
It's also very reliable, i've never had any problem with it but the bitrate does tend to go down from about 256kbps to around 45-ish. Doesn't really detract from anything though, the sound is still crystal clear. The other thing I like a lot isn't internet radio but a music show called 'In the Attic'. It's hosted by Rachel Fuller (Pete Townshend's girlfriend) and a geezer called Mikey (the pikey) Cuthbert and is live music from the hosts, Pete Townshend & occasional guests. So far since In the Attic is following The Who around on their festivals tour they've had Razorlight, The Flaming Lips, E from Eels, The Kooks, Magic Numbers, Rosehill Drive, Shack, Foy Vance, Martha Wainwright and several others all doing live acoustic stuff. Best of all, it's free and it's looped again afterwards. |
I forgot to add this to my first post, but Groove Radio is pretty awesome if you're into trance and house music. I generally put it on at work when my iPod dies and just listen to the streams for hours on end. Usually on weekends they have a streaming live show by a random Global Underground artist which is always a good listen.

Pandora never lets me down. I've discovered so much with it.
I had a really great Flamenco station a while back but I lost the bookmark... |
i second pandora. there's also radioblogclub for more direct searches rather than radio that chooses music for you
|
I am not usually a big fan of internet radio, but Last.fm holds a special place in my heart. I have probably doubled my iTunes library, thanks to this site. And it's all good music, too!

ABC Classic FM for the all the classical nuts out there, @128kbps.
What can I say? Been listening for about a year now; some excellent programmes, some not-so-excellent. They also play a wide range of new/experimental music, electronica, world music and jazz. |

vivalavoce.com has a pretty nice selection. This is for classical music, and for choral/opera works no less, so it's probably not useful to many people here.

I'm a paying VIP over at http://www.live365.com
I swear, that place is worth every cent. Pay $5 a month to get some nice desktop software and no commercials. We're talking about ANY musical niche existing on this. I fucking love this place. |
