The DaWii Code

So, it seems Nintendo could have, or could have not, encrypted the Wii release date in his latest press release, which reads as follows.

Quote:

The fourth quarter of 2006 will herald a new era for Nintendo with the launch of its remarkable new Wii home video game system. But that's not what this news item is about! How could that be, you ask? Perhaps the secret to the launch information for Wii is somehow encoded in the text of this news item. You might want to pore over it for a few hours before staying up all night to debate phraseology and comma placement with your friends online. Or maybe it's all just a scam to get you to read the other games we have launching this fall. One of the two.

As the weather cools down, the Nintendo portable game offerings heat up. FINAL FANTASY V ADVANCE makes its way to Game Boy Advance SP on Nov. 6. As series go, FINAL FANTASY is to video games what James Bond is to movies. FINAL FANTASY loyalists will enjoy an opportunity to debate which installment was best.

Nintendo DS owners are the big winners. Every week or so, another huge DS title hits, from the Touch Generations title Clubhouse Games to fan favorites like Elite Beat Agents and Yoshi's Island 2. Clearly a gamer's idea of paradise, here is Nintendo's upcoming DS lineup:

Oct. 9: Clubhouse Games
Oct. 16: Nintendogs (Dalmatian)
Oct. 23: Magical Starsign
Oct. 30: Pokémon Ranger
Oct. 30: Children of Mana
Nov. 6: Elite Beat Agents
Nov. 13: Yoshi's Island 2
Dec. 4: Custom Robo Arena
Dec. 4: Kirby Squeak Squad

And, for Nintendo GameCube owners, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will be available for you this fall. An enhanced version also will be a launch title for Wii. That will all happen on... Oh look, we're out of space.

For more information about all of Nintendo's upcoming titles, please visit www.nintendo.com.
Since the Final Fantasy - James Bond analogy feels kinda weird for me, my bet is that, if there is indeed a clue in the text, the Wii will be released November 17 (it's a friday), which is the release date for Casino Royale in the US.

Thoughts?

Whoever wrote the press release is a smartass, and you fell for it.

I agree: There's too damn many of them and they're all the same.

Basically, the couple of theories I've seen have pointed to October 2. The first notes that Wii probably won't come out on any of the days listed, and that the only shipping dates not listed are for October 2, November 20 and November 27. November 27th isn't possible because its after Black Friday, and the 20th is after the PS3 launch, disqualifying it. That leaves the second of October.

The more interesting is the second, saying that since we found out the name, we've had the release date. The "W" in Wii in roman numerals being 10, and the two "i"s meaning 2.

EDIT - Another 10/2 theory has popped up, this concerning the mentioning of James Bond in the press release. J is the 10th letter of the alphabet and B is the 2nd. Kinda far fetched, but makes you think.

Grubdog Jul 26, 2006 04:26 AM

Who even cares, isn't 4th quarter enough? By the time it's going to be released, we'll know. Not like anything between October and December will be surprising anyway. If this wasn't so boring as the release date i'd probably spend a couple hours on it. Perhaps it has something to do with the games they left out of the list, like Hotel Dusk.

Not to mention the fact that James Bond has 9 letters (there are also 9 games listed for anyone currently assessing a theory involving 9), and two are in capitals. 9 + 2. 11. Now the fact that there are two words in James Bond you add another 2 to get lucky 13. Take the first letter from 13 and it's a 1 so basically you minus 1 and it's 12. Where did that 1 go and why? It became a 0 when minus'd by the fact there is 1 James Bond per movie, this zero goes between the 1 and 2 to make 10 2. 10 / 2 CONFIRMED!

Actually, i've come across another possible release date.

9 / 3 (September 3)

Simply because there are 3 things referencing the number 9.

1) The number of letters in James Bond.
2) The number of letters in Hotel Dusk, which is mysteriously absent from the list.
3) The number of games on the list.

September 3 launch date is now fact. Don't Nintendo systems launch over there on a Sunday as well?

This would mean Nintendo lied about the Q4 date to try and trick us. Something could be extracted out of that too. The fact it's not Q4 means the release date could be pushed even further up, this opens new possibilities. It could be August. Which is next week. In 9 days perhaps!

9 days from when that press release was issued is August 4. The fact that this is the 4th speculated release date in this very post confirms this.

In conclusion Wii will be launched August 4, in just over a week.

Wow Grub, I really thing you're on to something!

I would wager October 9th. If you count exactly how many release dates are in the press release, and how many are listed bullet-style, you come to 10 release dates and 9 DS games, which are listed bullet style.

10, 9. October 9th. Just happens to be a Monday.

They were once good but have been horrid upsets in recent years :(

I seem to remember such a code breaking thing. It was also some Nintendo thing... What was it? Can't remember, but yet again it was something like "OMG, we get randomproduct. Just see here! Kick Ass And Take Names. 19 letters, rite? It could be that the game comes 1/9!"
Sure, they might do such a thing, and yet again, they might not. How will we know?

They're both repetitive and predictable?

Just to add in my two cents worth, note that Final Fantasy is the only title to be capslocked: November 7th?

Also, note that 10/2 = 5. Final Fantasy V (5). October 2nd?

Not taking the press release seriously, but hey, news drought, so let's have a bit of fun.

randomwab Jul 26, 2006 11:09 AM

I would love it to be released Augest 4th like Grubdog said, to walk into a store and see a Wii sitting there would be the strangest and greatest feeling ever.

Then again, I wouldn't have the cash to get one...bleh.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Jul 26, 2006 11:14 AM

I highly doubt Nintendo would wait to give an official release date until that soon before their console drops. A "SURPRISE HEY IT'S OUT" seems completely ridiculous.

I still expect it to be in or around November. I just hope they drop the bullshit and tell us already.

Wall Feces Jul 26, 2006 11:34 AM

Rumors I've heard point to it coming out pretty much right after TGS, which would back up the October 2nd theory. I've always wondered why companies don't release systems right after trade shows, when all the hype is in full-gear.

I actually made that post to show how you could get anything you want out of that press release. October seems most likely.

Ahh, a kindred spirit :)

So can we say it's in october then? Right, it's settled, october. Set aside $20 every week until then, and it's yours.

Actually, "X" is equal to 10 in roman numerals...But I do agree with the theory that it will be released on Oct. 2nd. Turn "Wii" upside down, and you have Mii, which is equal to 1002. 10/02 anyone?

Actually, if you turn Wii upside down, it's !!M. :naughty:

Actually, this reminds me of Nintendo's "Megaton" announcement, when people everywhere took the most random rumors and then made theories about said announcements from them. And then nothing actually happened.

I know that X is ten, but the "W" in Wii is two fives, which equals 10. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

kuttlas Jul 27, 2006 02:05 AM

I have reason to believe that the release date will be July 31st: If you flip the word Wii upside down you get the word Mii (me). My birthday is July 31st. A Wii would make an awesome birthday present.

PsychoJosh Jul 27, 2006 10:12 AM

Goddammit it's not "Mii" upside down, it's "!!M"

NovaX Jul 27, 2006 10:24 AM

It's actually M!!, it's just upside-down, not inverted.

Elixir Jul 27, 2006 10:40 AM

People couldn't possibly be over exaggerating in this thread.

Just be patient and wait for the console to be released, jeez. It's not like it's critical information when the launch date is, because any living person with even a small hint of common sense knows not to buy a first model unit at launch prices with launch priced games.

Final Fantasy: Save the world & look good doing it, access to a cache of weapons & technology. Stopped being awesome after FFVII, which is overhyped. FFXII finally does shit right, but is taking forever to be released.
James Bond: Save the world & look good doing it, access to a cache of weapons & technology. Stopped being awesome after Goldeneye, which is overhyped. Casino Royale finally does shit right, but is taking forever to be released

It's usually not a problem with Nintendo. All of mine are first-gen and they all work fine to this day. It's generally something you only have to worry about with Microsoft and especially Sony.
