A Popularity Contest Idea: Advertising Icons
I've done a newspaper-based contest on snack items. Pringles one that. I've done an NFL contest, which ended in a tie between Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay. Now, I've been inspired, by watching too many commercials, to do a contest on commerical mascots/icons. These characters have to be original. This excludes popular cartoon characters like Road Runner.
So far, I've compiled a list of thirty-nine icons. To do the tournament, this would need to be shortened by seven or, the less-wanted option, lengthened by twenty-five. If I have neglected a major icon that you feel should be in the running, say so. The main purpose to this, though, is to ask for assistance in narrowing down the participants to an even, tournament-friendly number of thirty-two. The List The Gecko (Geico) Ronald McDonald Red & Yellow (M&M's) Pillsbury Dough Boy Jack (Jack in the Box) Helping Hand (Hamburger Helper) Mr. Clean The Scrubbing Bubbles The Jolly Green Giant (Green Giant) Charlie the Tuna (Starkist) Mr. Peanut (Planters) Tony the Tiger (Frosted Flakes, mainly) Kool-Aid Man Toucan Sam (Froot Loops) Snap/Crackle/Pop (Rice Krispies) Captain Crunch Lucky the Leprechaun (Lucky Charms) The Energizer Bunny The Budweiser Clydesdales Cingular's icon--I've dubbed him "Splat-Man" Buddy (AOL) The Trix Rabbit Polar Bears (Coca-Cola) The Keebler Elves Buzz (Honey Nut Cheerios) The Michelin Man Spot (Target) The Wal-Mart Smiley Face Chester the Cheetah (Cheetos) The Roaming Gnome (Travelocity) The Chik-Fil-A Cows Snuggle The Serta Sheep Geoffrey (Toys "R" Us) The Quik Bunny (Nesquik) Fruit of the Loom Fruits California Cows (California Dairy Industry) Maytag Repairman The Capital One Vikings |
