Need software to shar files with another user
 

I would like to share files with another user but I don't know any good and easy to handle program for this. Hope someone can help me out with that.

Depending on how secure you want the connection to be, you can either setup a small FTP server (filezilla e.g.) or a SSH/SCP server. I think there is a port of the OpenSSH server for windows, that is relatively easy to set up. I don't recommend something like the "My Network Places"- method over a VPN, thats more overhead than you get data through the pipe.

I'll second Soulseek, since it's really simple to use. For me, the most reliable way to do private transfers over the years has been IRC though, but that needs a bit to get into, you know, servers, channels and so on...

"private transfers" (at least for me) implies a clean communication channel (something p2p doesn't provide) and at least symmetric encryption (soulseek doesn't provide that).
I really don't think it would be wise to use p2p software when exchanging private data.

@Elrasiel: If you don't care for privacy/encrpytion why don't you upload the stuff to the web, give you partner the link and he downloads the data. Or is it the filesize?

Well the data is over 2gb. I think that would be a little problem with uploading.

You could make a private torrent with uTorrent, that way you could resume the upload later if it cuts off.

If you want to be able to resume the upload, you might want to use Pando. The only problem is that both of you would need an account and the program installed, so it might become a bit of a hassle.

FTP, seriously. You don't even have to be smart to set it up. Resumable downloads and possible secure connections are possible.

Hmm... I am thinking about using VPN tunnels for my environment. The VPN server will have 32KB/s (256kbps) upload and twice that in download.

I will really only need it for file sharing between 2 branch locations, but I'm thinking a website using windows authentication would be a better method (especially using remote desktop web).

You can also share files by using Windows Live Messenger. It might not be as fast as FTP, but it's still a cheap and easy to handle alternative.

For sharing files, FTP is probably the best solution. You essentially set it up so you have a folder acting as the server root and private or public accounts for your friend(s) to access your files in that folder.

For transferring files, I'd just recommend using whatever instant messaging client suits your needs. They should all come with a simple file transfer feature nowadays, so all you have to do is agree on a single client/protocol with your friend.
