Carnivàle: one of the best shows, not on television

I made this post because I want everyone out there who hasn't seen this show to go watch it. you will not be disappointed. except maybe at the way it ends... I just want to get the word out there to people. I didn't see any other threads discussing it. anyways...

when this show first aired on HBO, me and my friend watched it and we both agreed that it was something special. however, I never had access or the time to follow it. but it never left the back of my mind.

recently I decided to get my hands of them and watch all the episodes I missed. only to find out that it was cancelled. I wondered if I should bother watching it at all. knowing that if I did love it I would probably just be angry that it got canned.

I decided the hell with it, and I ended up watching both seasons over 2 days. I just couldn't stop myself. it was one of the best pieces of entertainment I've ever seen. and now, well... I'm angry. lol

I cannot believe it got canned! it's not fair that this would get kicked off the air while all these other lesser shows seem to keep going. people seem to enjoy watching reality television over something interesting. I haven't been this pissed since Arrested Development got canned.

however there is a bit of hope left. HBO has been seriously considering a mini-series, or movie or something to finish off the storyline. and recently with shows like Family Guy, and Futurama being picked up again (albeit not as expensive to produce) it doesn't seem that unlikely to me that in the near future it might get picked up again.

I want people to know about this, so as to help bring it back.

I would just suggest buying the DVDs, but most people won't do that without seeing it first. currently HBO is airing repeats of it, and you can get it off torrent sites.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! it's about time someone spoke about this tragedy. i LOVED this series. it was definitley one of the best. HOW THE HELL can HBO leave the series like it did? talk about a cliffhanger!!! The storyline albeit a little lame, was very engrossing and the charcters were fantastic!
i haven't gotten the DVDs yet, but it won't be long now.

Anyone looking for a different type of show needs to check this out. i highly recommend it!

I've always seen the DVD set in the stores, and it really does look like an interesting show. Since it was on HBO -- which I don't have -- there would be no way for me to watch it as it was broadcast anyway. The characters and setting/costume design were the biggest selling point for me; even my grandmother thought it looked interesting!

I've heard a lot of complaining about this show and some other HBO series getting cancelled without at least attempting to wrap things up in the remaining episodes. Granted, this probably wouldn't be too satisfying, if the show was written for many more episodes, but still.

I hope they manage to revive it for the people who did watch it.

This terrific show is second only to the incredible Oz on my all-time list of favorite shows. It had an amazing ensemble cast, quite like Oz, but the show was unique in every other way. The story was always exciting, and you really cared about what happened to the characters. It's a shame to see the show end on such a cliffhanger. HBO lost a real good one when they cancelled this baby.

I saw the first season, but I lost interest in the interim between first and second season.Honestly I was having some trouble keeping an interest in the show even though I liked the premise. I suppose I could always download season 2 and see how it turns out.

Season 2 had an awesome cliffhanger ending that would have (could have) led into a promising third season. It's a pity. Although Deadwood's still on the air, I still miss Carnivale. Sunday nights were really something else when both aired together.

+ nothing!

good news: seems the season 2 DVD sales on amazon.com, bestbuy and other online stores are very healthy. last I checked it was rated #7 over just a few days. even season 1 was going up the charts, from around 12,000 to 700. hopefully HBO will take notice of this fact and revive the show.

it could happen!

The fact the way they left the series should be motivation enough to revive it. without giving anything away, one of the best cliffhangers in a while, and to stop the show?? damn you HBO!

Here's a response I got from HBO when I first found out the series had been cancelled:

Naturally, we regret your disappointment at our announcement that production of the series has ceased. Obviously, we had hoped, from the outset, that the show would become another of HBO's long-running signature series, and the series did develop a wonderfully dedicated fan base. Unfortunately, it was not been enough to sustain the series, and, after a two-season run, HBO decided CARNIVÀLE had run its course.
Fans of the show can find CARNIVÀLE merchandise on our website at www.hbo.com/store. Please keep checking at www.hbo.com/schedule for updates regarding encore schedulings and DVD releases.

We hope that you will find many other HBO originals on our upcoming schedules and that our service remains a valued part of your home entertainment package.

Sincerely,

HBO Consumer Affairs

I know online petitions aren't always a very good way of getting things done. but everything helps. everyone should (please!) take 5 minutes of their time to sign this petition. it would be greatly appreciated.

and for people who haven't seen the show, get out there and give it a try. it's really something special that was unfortunately just never given the attention it deserved when it was on HBO. but ever since it's cancellation there has been a growing fan base. he part of the revival!
