Not seeing gender icons

I see the little man/little woman/question mark icon when I'm viewing profiles, but they won't show up in the postbits. It's quite annoying - any way to solve this?

Bloggs Jul 15, 2006 05:06 PM

Does it matter? Gender icons doesn't mean that the user is male/female just because he/she is using it.

Krelian Jul 15, 2006 05:49 PM

Yeah, but it doesn't mean it's not irksome to see blank space where there should be a neat aesthetic feature.

edit: Oh yeah, the icons show up when I post a reply to a thread or edit a post - like right now. They disappear upon returning though.

Soluzar Jul 15, 2006 05:52 PM

This feature definitely worked before the crash, so I'd imagine that it's going to return sooner or later. At the same time, I don't imagine it's high-priority for the staff.

B4-Hunter Jul 16, 2006 04:17 AM

Yup there is something wrong with it...

Bigblah Jul 16, 2006 04:26 AM

What browser are you using? Have you tried clearing the cache, etc?

Ryunam Jul 16, 2006 05:04 AM

Actually I can't see them either. I've tried clearing Temporary Internet Files, any assorted Cookies and even the cache, but so far to no avail. I understand it's not an indispensable feature, but it would be great nonetheless to have it worked out.

By the way, I'm using IE 6.0.

Freelance Jul 16, 2006 05:47 AM

I mentioned this previously, and I'm using Firefox. I don't find it a really big deal about the missing gender icons, as if it really only takes five seconds to check someone's profile, not that I really ever do that anyway. Not exactly high-priority at the moment, but yes, this feature was working before the crash.

Dalkaen Jul 16, 2006 10:47 AM

Last time I checked, I could see my gender icon, but no one else's.

eriol33 Jul 16, 2006 11:28 AM

I'm surprised everyone including me turn into asexual =D
I'm using firefox.

Dalkaen Jul 16, 2006 11:29 AM

I saw my icon when I first made that post, but now I can't. Odd.

Krelian Jul 16, 2006 07:56 PM

Indeed. Whenever I make a new post or edit one I just made, mine shows up. I never see it otherwise though.

Odd, I thought only I was experiencing this. INTERESTING.

Bigblah Jul 16, 2006 08:10 PM

Alright, for those who are experiencing this problem, select "View Source" in your browser, look for the first few instances of
Code:

<div class="smallfont" align="center">
Copy the surrounding 4-5 lines and paste it here. Could be a template issue.

Template isssue? Hmm I suppose since I am also having the same problem with any browser I use on any computer.

Well here you go, got it from my firefox browser (ver: 1.5.0.4):

Have gender icons actually worked for anyone since the last crash?

Bigblah Jul 17, 2006 08:48 AM

Strangely enough, gender icons are working just fine for me :(

Apparently the image tags aren't getting written for most of you. I'll take a look at the templates.

seanne Jul 17, 2006 09:37 AM

I'm having this problem as well. I remember that gender icons worked fine for me for the first couple of days after the forums came back. Then suddenly they stopped showing up. My own icon still shows about 75% of the time after I've posted or edited a post though.

Here is the code you asked for, BigBlah.

Code:

      <span style="color: #FFFFFF">RadicalDreamers</span>

</b></a>
                                <script type="text/javascript"> vbmenu_register("postmenu_200440", true); </script>
                        </div>
</td>
<td>
<div class="smallfont" align="center">
&nbsp;</div>
</td>
</tr>
</table>

</td>
</tr>
</table>

Code:

      Darko

</b></a>
                                <script type="text/javascript"> vbmenu_register("postmenu_200442", true); </script>

                        </div>
</td>
<td>
<div class="smallfont" align="center">
&nbsp;</div>
</td>
</tr>
</table>
</td>
</tr>
</table>
<table border="0" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="1" width="159" bgcolor="#262f55">
<tr>
<td>
<div align="center">
<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="117" height="163">

They work for some people, not for others. Pretty much randomly.

Ryunam Jul 18, 2006 02:08 AM

Now I'm noticing a "red X" in place of the gender icon. Thought I'd point it out, since there wasn't anything of the sort yesterday.

Sir VG Jul 18, 2006 02:22 AM

It's because the problem lies in what addresses are used. Everything is currently pointing to: http://www.gamingforce.com/forums/images/misc/.gif

Which of course, is a bad image name.

Bigblah Jul 18, 2006 03:08 AM

Everyone will at least have an "undisclosed" image from now >_>

Flags work the same way as gender icons, and everyone seems to be able to see the flags, so I'm not sure what's causing this error.

Krelian Jul 18, 2006 05:16 AM

So first we're asexual and now we're all hermaphrodites?

It's an improvement!

Krelian Sep 25, 2006 10:52 AM

This post raises awareness of some kind of issue
