Trying to recover allocation unit...?
Im trying to format this old harddrive of mine, and whenever I do, it goes through this 'trying to recover allocation unit' that takes about 3 days. I'm wondering if there is a way to get around this extensive process. When it finishes, the harddrive works just fine, although I'm sure it has something to do with bad clusters. What is your opinion on this? What do you know about it?

My opinion? Hard drives don't cost enough to take chances with your data. Bin it. It might seem to work fine now, maybe even next month, but this is a sign that your drive has passed the point at which it is safe to depend upon it.

I definently agree with you, but I don't use this computer much at all, and I'm not going to invest any money into it, but if I can keep it running to play Starcraft on, I'll do it. Not worth my money though... so what can I do repair-wise?
