Marsepan!!!

About a month or so ago me and my friends were hungry and decided to look around for something to eat. We could not find anything so I tried the stand up freezer, this is where I found some random white bar covered in Christmas wrapping that really didn't look good at all. I brought it up as a joke and threw it at my friend Trevors face and told him to eat it, my other friend Jesse said it was marzipan and started to eat it. I tried some and thats when I began my addiction towards this random mysterious christmas bar. It is basically thick Icing which comes in bar form, really good/ rich stuff. Anyone else enjoy eating this stuff by itself? (I may be alone on that, I eat alot of really unhealthy stuff) If not what deserts do you like made with marzipan?

mmm, marzipan...

It's spelled "marzipan", and it's mostly almond paste. I don't really have a liking for it.

I wondered if the was talking about "marzipan." I've never tried it, but it looks so pretty when it's made into fruit shapes.

What does it taste like? Almonds?

More like almond extract in my opinion, and the stuff is awful.

oh, I googled it similar to that but spelled it wrong and it said to refer to marsepan, oh well almost tastes like maple syrup (at least when you eat random white bars of it) It's really dry and thick too I love it!

It wasn't just marzipan if you had a solid bar of it. Marzipan is soft. The texture is similar to cookie dough.

it was solid because it was in the freezer, by bar I mean it came packaged in a rectangle shape. It is indeed cookie dough textured. My cousin had a marzipan covered wedding cake, mmmmm....

I really like almonds, but I can't stand the stuff. Seeing such a fantastic mold and coloring of the stuff makes me hate it even more, because it looks so damn tasty. Life is complicated sometimes.

It's nice but only every now and then. I have a friend who could eat whole blocks of it by herself, she thinks it's that good.

It doesn't really taste that strongly of almonds to me, but then I've killed my tastebuds. It tastes how UHU glue smells... =s

In my experience, marzipan comes in a squeezable tube, not a bar or brick. At room temperature, it's far too malleable to support such a rigid shape. Tubes can at least be manipulated a little.

Also, a marzipan wedding cake is such a bad idea. Being made of almond extract, particularly the oils, there's a fair chance that someone could've had an allergic reaction. Marzipan is deceptive like that; it looks like benign candy but people who are allergic to nuts should avoid it.

I'm deathly allergic to nuts, and the last time I ate almonds I nearly died. I still eat marzipan, though, albeit cautiously... Good food to have over Christmas.

How does this work? You don't have a reaction at all to it?

Marzipan is fine in small quantities, but the cheaper it is, the more artificial (and strong) it tastes. I love the taste of almond extract so it's fine. Over here in Europe they make it into candy bars dipped in chocolate, with different fillings like hazelnut paste or something creamy, or some sort of fruit compote. The marzipan used in those isn't as sweet or mild so it's really nice. I'm just amazed people have never heard of it before O_O.

I can eat nuts in tiny quantities. I'm fine with a single chunk of nutty chocolate, but if I eat too much then my tongue starts to swell and itch, which means it's time for me to stop.
