I hate Famous Dave's. Never going there again.
 

I personally never was all that crazy about the place, but I passed it by today and was hungry, and was kind of in the mood for some BBQ, so I went in. There are plenty of other places in Philly to get way better BBQ, but I passed by and got in the mood.

Anyway, I got a BBQ chicken sandwich and "famous fries". First of all, they really cut down on the portions from the last time I went. They gave a generous portion of fries last time, probably around 30, but this time I got like 8 fries. I counted, and literally had 8. The way you can down fries, this is obviously a very small amount for an 8 dollar meal.

Secondly, the BBQ chicken sandwich had pieces of bone in it. They were thin and sharp, and I could've either choked on it, and bitten down on it and broke one of my teeth. I'm never going to that piece of shit store again.

If you go there and get a BBQ chicken sandwich, be careful.

Is Famous Dave's a Philedelphia-only store?

They probably just hired a terrible cook recently; you said yourself that they were pretty good before. I've eaten at Famous Dave's in the past and it was really good, and I'm usually not terribly keen on BBQ stuff.

Did yours have a "Worst Table in the Joint" or something like that? I can't remember if that was just the one location or not, but it was a table back in a corner with a horrible view of pretty much everything and you got a discount by sitting there.

I got it to go. I ate it when I got back.

So I'm not sure who made mine. But the way they make the chicken is, I think they grind it in a shredder. Bones probably got mixed in.

It's happened to me at KFC before, and I won't go there anymore either.

I once got someone's hair in my order of fries from McDonalds.

I still frequent McDonalds. It's going to take more than one bad experience to have me write off a place completely.

Chicken bones happen. It's an inescapable fact.

There's an awesome pulled pork joint one mile up the road from my place. Every now and then, you'll find a bone chip in their meat. They have a sign by the menu board explaining that this is a small risk due to the shredding process; you order the specialty at your own risk.

But it's worth that risk because their pork rib sandwich is soooo juicy. They make their own sauce and it's addicting.

But really, a small bone is a rather petty reason to stop frequenting a place that has otherwise good food.

If I loved Famous Dave's I'd still go back, but I'm not a huge fan of their food anyway. Their fries are good, and they have good bakes beans, but their sandwiches were very salty, and I always felt a little sick after eating them. Before today it's been a long time since I had them. Probably close to 8 months or so.

I haven't tried everything from there, but I'm not a big fan of the BBQ sauce. If I want BBQ there's other places I'll go, but if I go back to Famous Dave's I'll stick to the chili and baked beans.

Famous Daves is one of my favorite places, expecially for their cornbread muffins. The portions are a bit small, but you get a couple of sides with your meal. My co-workers and I go their for lunch sometimes, and I haven't noticed any changes as far as portion size.

If you want a larger portion, go with Red Hot & Blue. Their BBQ is tasty, and everytime I've eaten there, the food gets delivered to my table really quickly after ordering.

I actually always liked Famous Daves, but I have to admit I haven't been there for awhile. I always had it once in a while, but never as a regular place to go, as it is a bit expensive for what you get (I prefer local joints Merles BBQ or Harolds Chicken). That is awful to hear of bad portions, not to mention dangerous.

If Dave is so famous, how come I haven't heard of his establishment before? :(

This place called Sweet Lucy's BBQ in Philly is really good. It's not a chain, but it's way better than Famous Dave's. Small places usually have the best food. The only thing is I hardly am ever in that part of town so if I want to go there it's something I have to plan for. I pass by Famous Dave's a lot because it's on the boulevard out here.

When you live in Texas, it is harder not to run in to a BBQ joint than it is to find one. If a Famous Daves franchise is out there, it is probably hidden in the middle of many other respectable BBQ joints. In Chicago, good BBQ is a minority among all the international restaurants, so Famous Daves stands out a little better.

I've only eaten there once, but I don't think I had any problems like that. Some places in Asia that I've visited had pieces of bone in chicken or fish. I don't believe there were warning signs though. If there were, I couldn't have read them.

I've never heard of Famous Dave's... so it must not be *that* famous, huh?

I've eaten at Famous Dave's about three times in my life. I've never had this problem. It's probably whoever was back there cooking your order that day. Since I don't eat meat anymore, I can't really tell you how they are in my area anymore.

I went today with a friend of mine. I wasn't going to get anything because of last time, but their baked beans were good and I figure there couldn't be any bones in that.

I swear on all that I am, there was a bone as thick as about 3 pencils next to each other and about as long as a half of a pencil.

Now not only will I not go there, but I'm plotting to burn down the store.

One of the employees must have found this thread at some point and has been contemplating revenge over the past month. You may want to watch out for signs of food poisoning. You probably would have noticed regular ol' deadly poison by now.

Seriously though, you have horrible luck with barbecue.

I'll agree with Tritoch on that... You really do have horrible luck... Or just a really weird perspective of their food.

I only go there with my family, and we haven't ordered anything different ever since we first ate there. We usually get that all American Feast thing and I never find anything wrong with it. Portions are nice, and food is good. No excess bones or anything.

I've probably gone there a total of seven times in two different locations in NJ. They seem to have equal shares of portions here.
