Question for those who have been at any E3

I had a small question about E3 but I haven't found the answer anywhere, so I thought I should ask. Is E3 open to the public? If not, what is the way that you got the tickets? Do you just have to have connections or can you buy them? If anyone who has been to any E3 could answer these questions, I'd really appreciate it.
