The worst of that batch is the Spider-Man stuff. Civil War is pure bliss though.

Ramenbetsu Jun 15, 2006 09:19 PM

Never thought Spiderman would do what he did CW #2. This series is turning out great so far.

Vemp Jun 15, 2006 09:49 PM

Whoa.. thanks zip. I have't read the other stuff, so this is very convenient for me.

Really? They made it pretty obvious that he was going to do this...

Zip Jun 16, 2006 06:36 AM

Really? i thought
Spoiler:
he was gonna turn against Stark

He probably still is. The way I figure it, the story is far from over and doing this opens a can of worms never fully explored in SM before.

Acro-nym Jun 20, 2006 06:48 PM

With the stunt they pulled in Civil War #2, I have lost almost all hope for Marvel. If it weren't for Ultimates and Exiles, they'd have nothing. [mumble]Ruining Spider-Man--only going to get his loved ones killed...[/mumble]

Really? I think that a refreshing change like this is just what the company needed. This is going to spark many a great stories.

Joe Quesada, the Editor-in-Chief, has made obvious very recently that he doesn't like a married Spider-Man. One way or other, it's clear that they're going to be apart; it's entirely possible that the bodycount's going to include Mary Jane.

acid Jun 21, 2006 12:04 AM

Spoiler:
Alright, first off let me say that I absolutely hated what happened in CW 2. You simply cannot do that to a character like Spider-Man. Why was Green Goblin #1 (easily Spidey's most dangerous foe) so dangerous? Because he knew his secret. He knew how to attack Parker. When one of the driving ideas behind a character is that no one can know his secret because it can only be used to hurt the ones he loves, you can't just write that off and make it public knowledge.

In all honesty though, it won't last. I'll be surprised if by the end of Civil War there isn't some sort of "explanation" to the general public (clones! trickery! mind wipes!) that concludes that Parker isnt the real Spidey (maybe get Stark to fudge some DNA test results). And failing that, I'll be absolutely shocked if it isn't retconned right out of continuity within the next 2 years.

Much like the Sins Past thing they did.

It's things like that that have always bothered me about Quesada. He either doesn't like something or likes something too much, both of which show in some of what is put out in Marvel.

Preacher33 Jun 23, 2006 01:21 PM

The weird thing about this is, the reason Quesada wants to get rid of Mary Jane is to get Spidey back to his roots, right? But this is decidedly nowhere NEAR Spidey's roots... And has it been so long that everybody at Marvel's forgotten that they already TRIED to get rid of Mary Jane?

Zeo Jun 25, 2006 05:17 AM

Yeah God forbid Marvel takes a chance and does something different, mixing things up a bit.

Marvel is fucking EXCITING now thanks to CW, especially the Spidey books.

Acro-nym Jun 25, 2006 04:39 PM

You obviously don't understand the difference between taking a chance, as in doing something bold, and ruining the dynamic of a character. Also, you seem to not be able to comprehend what the logical conclusion to this is going to be, if it sticks. Peter can't get insurance. Peter can't get a job. His enemies kill his loved ones. There's not even the guarantee (despite his being there being a questionable decision in the first place) that he'll have the Avengers to turn to.

It didn't RUIN anything. It changed it/added to it. And it's about damn time.

Uh, yeah, exactly. That's what is GOOD about it. It's exciting and anything could happen. All bets are off.

Quoted for truth. Because characters can't have the same stories for 30+ years.

Acro-nym Jun 28, 2006 12:01 PM

No, they can't have the same stories for 30 years. However, a change in his life that can only lead to bad things happening to him just isn't appealing to me. You want your hero to have a crappy life? Okay, fine.

Mucknuggle Jun 29, 2006 05:22 PM

Crappy life? Not necessarily, but notice how the best stories involve something called DRAMA. Generally unfortunate things need to occur in order for their to be drama.

Zip Jul 2, 2006 01:16 PM

so liek i wont be updating the links now but all the civil war stuff will be in the Civil War folder on comics.jetsam (check the sticky). So not much of a change anyway :p.

you're dumb. Unmasked is the best Spider-Man story since A Death in the Family (the Jenkins and Ramos story).

That file is passworded. You wouldn't happen to have it would you?

Also: Amazing Spider-Man #532, Marvel Spotlight: Millar/McNiven & Civil War Frontline #2 are not on Jetsam. Just thought I'd let you know.

I didn't like Death in the Family, either. I guess if you're the kind of guy who liked Jenkins' and Ramos' work on Spider-Man, this kind of story would be right up your alley.
