Nintendo Monopoly

We all know Nintendo definitely does not have a monopoly on the game market, but a new Nintendo version of monopoly is being released. Check it out here: http://www.pressthebuttons.com/2006/...ly_ninten.html

Kairyu Jun 12, 2006 07:33 AM

After seeing some of the other "fancier" editions of monopoly I would think the nintendo-themed board would look a tad more creative. Well, then again it is a prototype.
Nice pieces though. I call the Koopa Troopa Shell!

NovaX Jun 12, 2006 07:50 AM

Yeah looks pretty boring, I also don't like how you buy characters instead of properties. I want to put a Hotel on Cranky's Hut or Peaches Castle!

VitaPup Jun 12, 2006 07:55 AM

Agreed, while the tokens look great, the board is uninspired. I wonder who was the genius that decided to make the properties characters instead of places like "Bowers Castle", "Funky's Flights", or "Lon Lon Ranch". People in the corporate world always seem to get little things like this wrong.

Hotobu Jun 12, 2006 10:29 AM

I have to agree with what was posted above. With respect to that I say we name the properties ourselves.

Hell while we're at it it'd be fun to rename the Community Chest and Chance Cards

[Community Chest] Xmas fund matures - collect $100 -> Magic Mushroom - Collect 100 coins

Boardwalk -> Mushroom Kingdom

Parkplace -> Hyrule.

RABicle Jun 12, 2006 10:52 AM

I expect Daisy to be the most expensive per night but it's ok as everyone would be more than willing to pay.

Omnislash124 Jun 12, 2006 11:39 AM

Yeah, it wouldn't be too hard to come up with names for the places.

Hyrule Castle, Mushroom Kingdom, Corneria, Saffron City, just take some from the SSB/SSBM/SSBB line. They've got many places. The pieces are good for a start. And as said before, the board looks uninspired.

Jail could be the sony press conference :) Go to the sony press conference, you cannot leave until you pay or roll doubles!!!!

I wonder why nobody mentioned a simple WTF when seeing that bobo posted a thread.

Also, that sucks. They could make it innovative with so many different things, yet they didn't choose to use any of them.

Monkey King Jun 12, 2006 01:51 PM

Bobo changed his avatar. :o

Good God, another Monopoly variant? They will whore that licence out to anybody with $10 and a back seat.

Acro-nym Jun 12, 2006 02:27 PM

The board looks shinier than a regular Monopoly board. But, then again, that might just be the lighting.

Why does The Legend of Zelda get two pieces? That seems somewhat unfair, especially given the amount of options they have to use for pieces.

I didn't really read the article fully, but will there be Pokemon in this one? I only ask because they already have a Monopoly...

Rockgamer Jun 12, 2006 02:27 PM

When I first saw the title of this thread, I thought Nintendo was gonna be making a Monopoly game for the DS or something, infusing Nintendo characters and themes into Monopoly similar to how they made Tetris DS. But now I see it's just a board game.

It looks pretty cool, but I agree with everyone else that they should have made the properties locations instead of characters, and then they could have made the game pieces the main character from each of the games they used.

I agree, the pieces are much better looking, just the metal they are made out of, than the regular monopoly ones.

I call the NES controller.

Coming up next: Nintendo Mahjong. Shortly followed by Nintendo Mouse Trap and Nintendo Guess Who.

"Does your person wear a hat?"
"Yes."
"YOU'RE MARIO"
"Bzzt, wrong."

Then something like Nintendo Accounting, Nintendo Pre-school Math with Mario & Luigi, etc.

FatsDomino Jun 12, 2006 10:28 PM

The board looks very shiny! So so so so so so shiny. I wish the pieces were more than just Zelda, Mario, and DK but whatev. I find the idea of owning characters instead of properties amusing though. Plus it let's other franchises have more of a chance to show face.

(I actually bought this back in the day...)

Back on topic, I really hope they change the locations as well. If it ships like the photos show, it's like... Nintendo Pimping: The Game. And when another player lands on that character, what is going on? It is a mystery. But they must pay you money.

WolfDemon Jun 13, 2006 02:08 AM

Does anyone else find it hilarious that Waluigi is the most worthless character on the board?

Very clever Scotty. I cracked up reading that. It's a good idea too.

Pez Jun 14, 2006 05:30 AM

I'd switch the boots for a Kuribo's Shoe token.

Still, buying characters instead of property doesn't do it for me. How are you supposed to mortgage them?

Hybrid Hunter Jun 14, 2006 10:49 AM

Buy the game and find out how mortgaging works!
If i had money to spare i wouldn't mind getting this.

Freelance Jun 14, 2006 11:28 AM

I'd get it just 'cause it's Nintendo, but yeah, I'd have have locations instead of characters. I'm glad Star Fox is getting more recognition.

Unfortunately, I have no one to play it with, so there's no point in getting it. You can tell they spent more money on the tokens than the actual board :D

wvlfpvp Jun 14, 2006 11:57 AM

Dude.

Sweet. Hehehe, I want to whore out Mario.
