Newbie question
Got a prob mates, sure that you guys can help. I'm new to FTP and i have no idea how to get my browser to look at one of your sites. I've been trolling the net looking for hard to find game soundtracks for nearly 2 years now and i think i've found my treasure trove in this site. Can someone give me a high speed breif on how to use the ftp addresses and especially the port numbers. (they are really kicking my ass) also, any other tips would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks much. |

Hey - since you're looking for something high-speed, you're probably not interested in reading that wall of text Aardark has linked you to.
Well, here's the brief and dirty version: 1. D'ya know how to use torrents? If yes, skip this next sentence. If not, download and install µTorrent. 2. After that's done, download this file and open it with µTorrent. 3. After you get the FlaxFXP download - install it and use the keygen to legitimaize your copy. (FlashFXP is a program that will let you connect to other people's FTPs. There are other ones, but use this one until you become familiar enough with the experience to be choosy.) 4. Fire up FlashFXp. Click Session->Quick Connect. Now, you'll probably see this. What you type in that window determines to what FTP you connect to. FTPs are run by GFF members, and they each have a thread for their FTP. The threads are in the My Stuff forum, and each of them has different stuff on it. I'll use seanne's FTP as an example here. 5. Be sure to read the maker's thread completely - but if you're in a hurry, just skip to the Rules and Contact Info bits. In brief - don't try to reconnect to an FTP more than once in 2 minutes. It's bad and it pisses people off. Also, post in that thread, saying you're downloading/uploading from their FTP. Other rules vary by the person running the show. 6. Now, for the connection info bit - this is what you need: server adress, port number, user name, and password. These vary depending on if you want to upload, download or look around the FTP. (uploading = sending the person running the FTP a copy of a file you have; downloading = getting something they have; looking = looking around to see what they have on their FTP) So, we go over to seanne's thread, and find the downloading info if you scroll down a bit: Server adress: <taken out> Port number: <taken out> username: your GFF username - in this case, NinjaBob2312 password: <taken out> (we'll asume you're only interested in music on his FTP. As you see, you can use different passwords (<taken out>) to access different files on his FTP.) 7. Now you go back to FlashFXP, and you input that info into the Quick Connect window. Now click Connect. 8. Enjoy the show. On the right hand side, by default, you should see the folders of the FTP. Browse around and once you find what you want, double click on it, and wait for it download it. That's all. Hope it wasn't too long to read. Edit by RacinReaver: Changed the URL for Seanne's FTP so it's not public knowledge. |
I don't Seanne will like that now everyone can view his FTP info outside the 'My Stuff' forum, which is not viewable for non-registered users, while this forum is.

My mistake. ;_;
I've edited the post. I actually never knew My Stuff was for registered members only :( |
