Any Kohei Tanaka fans out there?
Just wanted to know what you think of Kohei Tanaka's work. I love his work especially the work he has done on the Sakura Taisen soundtracks. I already have
-Sakura Taisen 2 Steam Gramophone -Sakura Taisen 3 Music Collection ~ Paris Music Hall -Sakura Taisen ~In Hot Blood~ TeiGeki Complete Song Collection (soundtrack to the remake of the first Sakura Taisen game) -Sakura Wars 4 ~Maidens, Fall in Love~ Complete Music Collection His stuff is fantastic and I'll never get bored of it:biggrin: |
I own a bunch of Tanaka's albums, and he is one of my utmost favourites. Such a talented and long careered composer, and yet no one has heard of him. :/
I have the vocal arrange albums of the first three Sakura Taisen soundtracks and the soundtrack to the 5th game. His music is what I'd call easy to approach but hard to appreciate. Chery pop style generally turns people off, then without thinking what they're actually hearing. Anyway, who wouldn't have heard the Alundra soundtracks? That's what he's most famous for. Other work by him that I can recall is the background music for the anime One Piece and the game soundtrack Gatekeepers OST. |
I LOVE ALUNDRA OST!
that soundtrack is amazing. Though I gave up on the game, listening to the music was so nostalgic when I found earlier on this year. I love his dungeon and battle themes. I still need to have a proper listen to the Alundra 2 Soundtrack. |
I wasn't even aware that he did any work for Alundra. Alundra is a great title and was a joy to complete, as I'm a big fan of Landstalker.
I'm also quite partial to Sakura Taisen, even though RED has been milked by Sega and now they're pretty much dead. Sakura Taisen 3 specifically is probably the best game out of the series, mostly for the unique combat system. It's a shame they didn't get the games translated into english. (But they have the time to translate it into chinese and korean, yeah whatever) Alundra's OST combind with Sakura Taisen's OST makes for a nice listen. Most of the tunes are quite peaceful and relaxing to listen to. |
Kouhei Tanaka is also one of the most prolific composers for anime -- not just instrumental BGM but songwriting too, from the original Gunbuster to the currently airing 2nd season of Ah! My Goddess TV. This page chronicles just about every song he's written.
I really enjoy his work whenever he's paired up with Shirou Hamaguchi (Sakura Taisen TV/movie, One Piece). |
I never realised that he had worked with Hamaguchi. Though I do agree the Sakura Wars film soundtrack was impressive.
Double Post: It is a shame that no one has heard of him Kishin. He is such a talented composer. Ever since I got my first Sakura Taisen album I enjoyed his soundtracks ever since. Double Post: I do prefer the remake of Sakura Taisen (Sakura Taisen - Atsuki Chishio Ni). It has been my first Japanese game I have played and I loved it from the start to the end. I bought the third last year and I love it as much especially the soundtrack. |
Tanaka is a great composer! I espically like his older game works, from the SFC era. Another composer with a VERY similar style imo is Akihiko Mori (Mystic Ark, Wonder Project J 1 and 2, Gokinjo Bouken Tai).
Back to thread topic, my favorite newer OST by him is prolly Alundra. But Bounty Sword and Lennus 1 and 2 from the SFC times are also very good. EDIT: Bounty Sword was composed by Tanaka and arranged by Mori, i guess im not the only one who thought their styles matched. |

Anyway, though I'm very rusty when it comes to Sakura Taisen and Tengai Makyou, I loved Tanaka's works and both Alundras, Mars Story, Bounty Sword, Lennus, and Gatekeepers. Great to see Akihiko Mori being mentioned by the way. Lennus 2 was also arranged by him. That guy is a legend anyhow. May he rest in peace. |

I have yet to hear the Alundra 2 OST. How is it? Is it worth buying, or should i just try to find it online? Anyone here willing to give me a YSI or Sendspace link to it? It would be greatly appriciated! |
