Xbox 360 "Vision" Camera

September 19th is now the expected release date according to the podcast on majorneslon.com.

What better way to gay up a game of UNO than by adding everyones' faces/groins to the table. Supposedly gonna be going for $40.

I'll probably just get one if it lets you take pictures to use as your gamerpic, or to try out the features in games like World Series of Poker where it will be able to make the character's face in the game look like your own. I'm pretty much positive I'd never actually use it to show my face on XBL. I feel nerdy enough just using a headset to talk to imaginary people on the interspot.

I already told you guys the best way to get people to screw up is to show a close up of your ballsack.

Upon further thought I probably won't do that because my ballsack is not something anyone should actually SEE. Not if they don't want to be driven to the brink of madness contemplating how it's even possible for a man to have as huge testicles as I do.

::ballsack::

Ahahahaha.

Provided what Tube said does happen, I wonder how many gamerpics are going to be someone's nuts after this comes out.

I'm going ot guess about 95% or so.

Plus, you'd have to stand against the far wall of your apartment to fit it all in the frame.

You can make gamerpictures of yourself too. Just watch, on Halo 3 all you're gonna fucking see is gonna be penises.

Solis May 30, 2006 09:00 AM

I wonder what they'd do about people that take "offensive" pictures with their cameras. Maybe they'd start temp banning people for enough offenses, or at the very least other players can always leave feedback. Hey, they have a Live Feedback catagory for offensive voice chat, so one for offensive images isn't a stretch.

Personally, I'd like to be able to use a custom gamerpic on Live. I don't like the idea of only being able to use pre-set ones.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss May 30, 2006 02:01 PM

I can't imagine they'll allow pictures of cocks because of the problems with kiddie porn. There's a lot of immature kids on Live and they're the ones most likely to take pics of their gonads. If Live servers are hosting pictures of kids' tackle, Microsoft are gonna get in a load of trouble, very quickly.

I would have thought it would work mainly as an internet version of the eye-toy won't it? The eye-toy is the greatest ever party game, least wise it is as the kind of parties I go to.

I agree with Tube though, chatting to random foreigners with a headset is plenty weird enough already without seeing them too...

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss May 30, 2006 02:12 PM

Which in itself would be a huge administrative effort. More likely they'll leave it up to other gamers to report shitty uses of the camera.

It'll be interesting to see how it's moderated though because it will only take a couple of paedos waving their wangs at little kids before it gets banned.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor May 30, 2006 02:25 PM

Indeed, if anything, it would have to just let you upload pics and only check on them if they get reported.

If you make the consequences bad enough, like a Live ban or something, I'm sure you'd cull out all the people who would make penis pics really fast.

SketchTheArtist May 30, 2006 02:32 PM

What I'm really looking forward to with this device is the fact that we'll be able to put ourselves in the game, which is pretty awesome, in it's own right.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss May 30, 2006 02:34 PM

The problem with Live bans though, is the easy availability of free trial memberships. Pretty much every game comes with one now, I've got at least four spares. I imagine more likely will be a minimum age limit to use the service. That way if kids get onto it they've lied about their age and Microsoft are pretty blameless.

value tart May 30, 2006 02:39 PM

The thing won't let you sign up unless you tell it you're 18, otherwise your parent needs an XBox Live account. So yeah, if a kid lies about their age it can't be MS's problem.

fuck yeah.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor May 30, 2006 02:53 PM

With profiles and Live accounts so intricately tied together, they should release an update or something that blocks your profile or entire 360 from accessing Live.

Haha, that's just a pipe dream though. I know that'll never happen. ;_;

Apart from that, I suspect this might look a little odd at first. Especially as 70% of people will be running about with cocks for faces. I can see it getting more use for online rpgs. Oblivion has some mean customisation options but actual faces is always gonna be better.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor May 30, 2006 02:59 PM

The thing is though that to get an even halfway accurate facial mapping to a character, you'll need to take a LOT of different pictures of your face at various angles. I'd imagine you'd need at least 5 shots. Left, right, center, and 45 degrees to either side, to even come close to making something that doesn't look dumb as hell. And they'd have to be really straight pictures too. If you mess up, you could look goofy as heck.

And hell, the more complex facial geometry gets that you're skinning onto, the harder this will be to do. I dunno if it'll turn out well at all. =o

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss May 30, 2006 03:02 PM

You're right. A 2D photo mapped onto a 3D face is always gonna look out of proportion and the superior graphics of the 360 are only going to make that all the more obvious.

It will be funny to see the acne-ridden bespectacled face of your opponent before you stick a 7.62mm sniper round through it though...

russ May 30, 2006 03:02 PM

I might get this just so that I can have my gamerpic be of my sideburns. Everyone will be jealous and of course try to imitate.

The link itself doesn't provide enough contents?

Dr. Uzuki May 30, 2006 03:35 PM

If we let everyone run around posting a link and nothing more, this place would turn to shit.

Links to news articles provide information. It's up to you to hold discussion over it. It doesn't even need to be much than a single idea stated in a single sentence, but "fuck yeah" does not suffice.

um, I mean, I fully understand what you are trying to tell me. I will use your information as to prevent future incarnation of this problem at hand. ;-)
