to the people of the south without an Air Conditioner...

how can you endure to play on your computer when its so hot!!?

ok here in quebec we finaly got our first really warm day of the summer and god it was hot and my air conditioner wasn't installed, so its was already hot in the house and my computer to help that heats even more my room >.< really I had to shut it down and go in another room because I couldn't stand the heat.

really I can't wait that my dad put the air conditioner in my computer room XD

btw sorry if its not the best place to discuss that, i didn,t know where to put that XD

Its usually relatively easy to survive without air conditioning, go to a country that is actually decently hot and you'll notice it. Canada usually shouldn't get that warm...

SemperFidelis May 29, 2006 10:15 PM

I live upstairs so my apartment heats up and stays at the sauna-like temperature. I do have an air-conditioner though, but I'm too much of a frugal bastard to use it much. I like all the sweating and cold showers anyway. Don't live in the South, but it's easily 80 to 90 degrees in the apartment especially if I'm cooking.

Gechmir May 29, 2006 10:15 PM

People who live in the south that lack air conditioner most likely do not have a computer or internet. Unless their service is out. If you're advanced enough to have a computer, I'm sure you're advanced enough to have AC =p

Ours went out last summer on the hottest days of the year. DAMN was that rough. Slept on top of the covers for the first time in a while. Still woke up in a sweat. Ugh. I hated that. And I've felt hot days, believe me.

I'm lucky that the place I'm staying in has unlimited air conditioner use. They basically pay a set amount each month and can run it 24 hours a day if they wanted to. It actually gets pretty hot in my room during the summer, living in CA and all. I usually survive it by running two fans at the same time and by drinking cold water.

I live in the south and I can confirm that if you live down here and do not have an air conditioner, then you will most definitely not shut yourself in a room with a computer and spend more than 20 minutes with it turned on. I mean I have AC and I still don't like to spend much time on my upstairs PC because the CRT monitor heats up the room {and heat rises so it is always slightly warmer upstairs than downstairs where I spend most of my time}.

Alterminded May 29, 2006 11:16 PM

South Florida, a Fan comes quite in handy especially on those humid days. And even then I usually have time to chill between doing some PC activities

Coming from a Texan, if you don't have AC, you're better off outside in the shady green (not a parking lot or something) than indoors. I would also recommend Wal Mart or McDonald's. I don't understand how you can't survive Quebec when millions in India are in a worse situation than most North Americans. =\

Well its like that every summer and I never had an air conditonner. Kinda got used to it by now.

And its not THAT hot in Québec. >.>

Hmm, I dont need air conditioner. Currently I'm living in town where the temperature is cool which makes me avoiding morning bath. Not to mention, my hands and feets almost frozen eveyday by night!

add Air Conditioner and I will be surely become a jack frost.

electric_eye May 30, 2006 01:25 PM

Get a fan maybe or just take all of your clothes off? Here in Scotland it never really gets that warm but when I am in Hong Kong I prefer to have the air conditioning off because it leaves me a dry as a prune. I much prefer to sweat it out.

Sol May 30, 2006 01:30 PM

Living in California made me used to hot temperatures, so I rarely ever feel the need for air conditioning. I don't ever think that any computer I owned has been capable of heating up a room to a point that I notice it, even if it's west facing. An open window and a fan or a cold drink takes care of most problems with the heat for me.

Unagi May 30, 2006 03:38 PM

Nobody has mentioned it so I will: Humidity. That's what get's me. I can stand hot temperatures, but if it's humid, that's when I don't want to move around too much.

Be sure to appreciate your ACs, when traveling you have to put up with what you've got. Once I was on a Caribbean island (so obviously the weather was hot), then I went somewhere in the U.S. (where they happened to be having a heat wave), then California which you can usually assume will be hot. When going off to Europe though, I was certain I'd finally catch a break, but guess what? The day I happened to arrive, they were having one of their hottest days ever! It was even hotter than it was in California! No AC, top floor of a building -it was wonderful.

I hate southern heat. i'm currently saving up money to move north to colder climates and be near my brother. I'm with Unagi on this - the heat doesnt necessarily bother me but the humidity can feel stifling.

Visavi May 31, 2006 12:36 PM

I do reside in the south and for a while my father would not buy an air conditioner--but did own two computers--because he wanted to save energy but could not live without Morrowind or Neopets (very bad addiction). Luckily, we do have an air conditioner that works downstairs but not upstairs within my room.

I think a lot of people in the South learn to adapt to the heat. I know if the temperature is below 75°F here I end up freezing. There are many ways to remain cool such as fans, swimming, going to other air conditioned buildings, wearing less clothing (which can be very disturbing), etc. Granted, I do feel bad for those living closer to the equator who have to deal with the warmer weather, but they know how to adapt.

The state that I am currently residing does become very hot, but the humidity is not as bad as the humidity at the state that I attend college. It could become 100° F and I would be able to handle it here, but it could get 70° F at the college state and I would barely be able to stand it. It was that temperature once at my college and my whole body and pillow was literally covered in sweat.

Where I live the apartments within a few years of Disneyland opening... so there were no AC units installed... :P
Then again, there is a rumor that someone is in the process of buying up the complexes on my street which would be bad news for me since I've lived there nearly 10 years now... so my next place will most definitely have AC...

But to answer the question at hand: a few fans placed in the apartment and the ceiling fan in the bedroom in high with all the windows and doors open...

Rydia May 31, 2006 02:08 PM

The weather in California is the hottest during July and August, so I don't typically enjoy going out too much during those months unless I have to. I don't believe the temperature has reached 100 degrees yet, so I'm trying to take advantage of the current warm weather.

My brother and I don't leave the air conditioner on for too long because of the bill. The temperature inside isn't very warm anyway unless the weather outside is at least 90 degrees.

dagget May 31, 2006 03:22 PM

As stated before, if it's god-awful hot outside and the A/C is broke, then it's going to be just as, if not more miserable in the house. My PC won't be on, my fan will be in the window PRAYING for a breeze and I'd be out side trying to do something to take my mind off the heat.

I poked it and it made a sad sound May 31, 2006 03:36 PM

Up here in grand old New England, you better have a motherfucking AC in the dead heat of July and beginning of August.

The humidity up here gets SO WRETCHED, you can literally take a shower in the morning and not completely dry off until dusk. The AC keeps the temperature AND MOISTURE at a minimum. <3

Even today is pretty wretched. Its not as bad as it COULD be, but they're saying its a heat wave. Thank god my offices have AC. Because driving in that tiny-ass car of mine in the blazing sun, EVEN WITH THE AC ON is so horrible.

I am also a compelte chickenshit and never run the AC unless I absolutely have to. TERRIFIED of overheating the car.

Cobra Commander May 31, 2006 04:49 PM

Well I live in Hawaii, and technically that is south since its near the equator...man my room is an absolute oven, my comp and all my electronics are probably frying!
