Xbox 360 Faceplates
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=099Hl...tes%2Dp1%2Ephp
Is it just me, or is it impossible to find anything that looks better than the stock faceplate. Not that I even like white, but it just looks even worse to have an all white console but then some fancy colorful cover on the front. Totally makes it look like a cheap piece of garbage. Not only that, but you actually have to pay money to make your 360 look cheap. This extensive review of many 1st party and 3rd party faceplates even confirms that not a single one is up to par with the quality of the stock one (looks aside). http://www.xbox-scene.com/hardware/faceplates-p1.php Some of them are even near impossible to safely remove once they're on. To summarize, if you bought any type of faceplate replacement, you are an idiot. |
There is this one I saw once that only had the small green swirl logo that sort of went around the power button. It was minimalistic and looked decent.
The rest, however, look like complete shit. Even the Zero Hour one is attrocious. My personal favorite on the uglyometer is the Full Auto faceplate. Ugh. |
Wasn't the Zero Hour one the one that just had the green circles on it, but was white other than that. I actually forgot about that one, I thought it looked pretty decent.
|
The one you're thinking of is the one I also don't mind. I *thought* it came from Zero Hour as well, but if it did, I can't find any written reports about it or photos of it. The Zero Hour faceplates I was referencing were these ones:

Ok yeah, that one is disgusting. So where did that other one I was talking about come from, some E3 event or what. I just remember hearing they were limited and going on eBay for a lot. Maybe they gave them out at that gayass MTV 360 unveiling thing last year or something.
|
All of these faceplates look like shit. And I don't even see why you would want a translucent one. The area behind the faceplate wasn't made to look pretty. I agree with Tube about the console. It's an all-white console, so the faceplate should go along with it, not make it an eye-sore.

I think this is the one me and you are thinking of. Looks like it's from E305, according to that auction, and yeah, it's pricey. It IS the only decent looking non-stock faceplate though. |
I use a 3rd-party faceplate. I originally only intended to install it temporarily, but I had a hell of a time getting the stock Microsoft faceplate off of the system and I think I broke it. I haven't tried doing anything with them since.
|
Hey I think my Microsoft Blue Hot Rod faceplate looks pretty damn sweet if I do so say myself. Of course, I didn't buy it my aunt did. I got the stand with the game slots on the side and its vertically standing in all of its glory.
Someone buy me the PGR3 one please. |
I have the Hot Rod faceplate, and I think it looks pretty cool. The fact that the rest of the console is still white is kinda shitty, but the distinctive pattern makes up for it. And the matching theme is cool, too.
Yes, I'm retarded for paying $20 for it. |
Why wouldn't or couldn't you have a faceplate. I thought there was no difference in that regard.
|
I don't think the DVD tray would really make any difference in how good the faceplate would look on a 360, for the most part. Might even look better with a white tray since you'd be matching cheap plastic with cheap plastic.
|
I've never felt the urge to decorate any of my consoles and I doubt I'll start once I raise the cash for a 360. I agree they do look pretty odd with just the face plate different and the rest white. Is there not somewhere you can buy some sort of vinyl cover for the rest of it too?
|
I can't really say anything against decorated consoles though. I just remembered I own a "Pokemon Stadium Edition" N64...
I was drunk when I bought it, ok? |
I like how I bought my 360 used and it came with a The Outfit faceplate, whatever the shit that is, and because they don't sell the plain white faceplate, I had to get the next available option, the plain silver one. It is barely noticable. I'm not retarded for spending $20 on it because looking at the retarded ass one that it came with was not happening.
|
Surely Microsoft will sell you a replacement original? They'll probably charge you a shed load for it but I bet they'll sell you one.
|
Devo, you can get Vinyls now actually, and complete skin kits are all over eBay and other cheap sites.

The silver one that I have is light enough that it isn't an eyesore and the difference in its color and the color of the console isn't so noticable that it bothers the OCD portions of my psyche, which I am thankful for, so it hasn't really been a priority. Hell, I could probably run over to my local Gamestop and ask them to make a switch with me for the white faceplate off one of their in-stock used consoles since I am a pretty good customer over there. |
