GoogleAds shutdown :(

Google emailed me saying that the content I had on my page went against TOS. That's why there has been a blank spot or an error where the ads used to be. As I investigated further, it was due to someone having a "Support GFF click the ads" thing in their signature. I emailed them trying to work something out but nothing yet... I hope they don't cancel the account otherwise we'll have to look for other ways for revenue.

What a bitch. Can we have names, please.

bobo May 28, 2006 10:09 PM

It's nobody's fault lol. The person doing it was just trying to help. I think Google's just nazi about their program.

Why Am I Allowed to Have Gray Paint May 28, 2006 10:13 PM

Couldn't someone simply edit their signature temporarily to remove the offending text?

Adamgian May 28, 2006 10:30 PM

Would it be a violation of the TOS to state on the boards that people shouldn't do that, and then ask for the ads to be reinstated? Or what I mean is, would they agree?

I'm not surprised they're pissy about it though, didn't Google just lose a multimillion case over such stuff anyways though?

Sarag May 28, 2006 11:06 PM

Sounds like Google's ads are pretty finicky anyway. Don't they bitch at you if you get too many clickthroughs?

They only suspend accounts. I had my account cancelled for like 4 months once, but then I got it reinstated. Everything was the same as I had left it.

Is there a way to fix it in the meantime so we don't have to click the back button twice everytime we want to go back a page?

I'm not experiencing this problem. Could you elaborate?

I, too, am being plagued by this problem. Normally, I could go back a page using the back button on my browser, but lately, the back button only works when I click it twice. This is only happening to me on GFF, though. :(

Blah, looky here.

If the problem is related the google ads being broken as it seems to have been suggested, add the google ad site to adblock. (if you use it, firefox, etc.)

Bigblah May 29, 2006 01:23 AM

Alright, for now I've commented out the ads in the footer so they don't show up. I guess we'll leave it that way until the ads are re-activated or some alternative is decided.

Sarag May 29, 2006 01:56 AM

I never had the double-back problem either, but I'm ad blocking everything.

Dr. Uzuki May 29, 2006 02:37 AM

Ack!! I am still hitting back twice. I became use to it. Curse you, mixed blessing.

Franky Mikey May 29, 2006 02:59 AM

I'm not sure why you guys don't just get a better browser like Opera. :/

The Plane Is A Tiger May 29, 2006 03:57 PM

Laziness mostly. I have Firefox, but I still use IE 99% of the time because I don't like Firefox's interface and it loads up too slowly when I first open it.

I'm just glad the double-back error is gone now, and I no longer get a funky error message every time I close an IE window that was on GFF.

nuttyturnip May 30, 2006 09:14 PM

And now the error is back. I have Firefox, but the spacing on GFF is all weird when I use it, so I just stick with IE.

Excrono May 30, 2006 09:19 PM

I have been using the latest version of Firefox (1.5.0.3) along with Adblock and have been having absolutely no problems with the "double back" issue. I guess it must be due to Adblock preventing the frame from loading at all. That said, I do hope Bobo is able to work out a deal with Google. It did surprise me to read why they suspended this on GFF, I thought it would be for offering copyrighted/trademarked material...

I use FF all the time, and everything looks fine. Do you have the latest version?

Anyway, it looks like the ads are back now.

nuttyturnip May 31, 2006 10:03 PM

You might be on to something there, Kaleb. I'm still running 1.0.1; I never bothered to update since I never use it. Duh.

So I am seeing the ad's are back. I noticed in Pom's award thread that there were adverts for pom poms. Hilarity. ^_^

Anyways, I guess shit has gotten sorted out? Any updates?

I guess since bobo made that thread the other day this one can get closed.
