McDonalds sauce... addictive?

Hi, well, the other day talking with job partners, a conversation about fast food and McDonalds started. Someone said that some time ago there were some especulations about the sauce of McDonalds hambugers. Not ketchup, of course, I mean the on e inside which come on every deliver. If I tell the truth, I love that sauce and maybe much people think the same. But, everyone know how bad fast food is. So, why do we continue going there? There are lots of alternatives (pizza, hot dogs, kebaps,...) so, why hamburgers? Do you think there could be an addictive ingredient on their sauces (like nicotine) that makes you come back 'later'?

If there are addictive ingredients in any fast food, I think it must be KFC. Although I've not eaten KFC for years, and am now a vegetarian, there was a time that I couldn't get enough of it. The real problems started when they opened one about 5 minutes from my house. Damn, I'm glad I gave that shit up. It was making me seriously unhealthy.

I've gone just one or two times to KFC and tried both chicken: normal and crispy (i dunno if there are more types in other KFCs) but each time I see that fried fat ... it makes me sick >_<

No, we don't keep going there because they're drugging the sauce. It's cheap, fast and it tastes good...it really is that simple.

From my understanding, that special sauce really just is ketchup and mustard, right?

See where he says "not ketchup, of course, I mean the one inside which come on every deliver." Although I am not too sure what he means it's in every "deliver", I think he means the sauce in the patty, or something.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Psssh.... McDonald's sauce. It is ketchup, but with something mixed in like mayonase. At least, that's what Burger King does. Their Whopper sauce is nothing more than ketchup + mayonase mixed together. The only problem is figuring out how much of each is mixed at whatever ratio.

Taco Bell is far more addictive. I can walk there in 10 minutes, eat 4 beef and potato burritoes, regret it on the way back, and die on the toilet. Doesn't ever stop me though.

Maybe they figured out the secret ingredient of the ages: MSG?

I feel that no fast food restaurant is addictive. They all hand out the same gunk and it is fine when you are starving and need something to eat for ~$6, but I always find it to be repulsive in hindsight. I've never really come back to a fast food joint to satisfy a craving.

Craze May 31, 2006 10:19 AM

Well I have a friend that can have McDonalds twice in a week...but personally I think that if you take anything in excess you'll get sick of it, regardless of the addictives.

When I was younger I was somewhat addicted to fast food, but not that much anymore. I especially can't stand soft drinks and the highly salty french fries they serve nowadays. I agree with galen, the real reason you're going back because it's a cheaper alternative and it can taste good.

Hehe, but everyone can agree with me that McDonalds 'fried' smell is quite particular. Once you know it you cant be wrong with it. Even in my city, sometimes the smell goes some hundred meter beyond their place ( I suppose it must be my body asking for fat and rubbish food :P)

even though half the time they are soggy and limp, i swear there is something addictive about mcdonald's french fries. i try to avoid mcdonalds like a plague but man sometime I go every day for a week. i feel horrible but i'm weak and powerless to stop myself, at least until I'm broke.

True. I know it's not healthy food and there are people who hate it but I've always loved McDonalds because of a certain compactness of the food. It's as if they got boxes of the stuff and got some really fat dude to just sit on them and squish them until they were like that. I remember my friend (not any longer) going on about how they use meat near the rear end to produce burgers. So what, it's intense there and it tastes fine.

I used to be stuck on fast food for quite awhile. I was literally eating it everyday for lunch and dinner because I worked at one of those places a long time ago. However, while I was there, I learned to stop eating the meat. I have no idea how they do it at other places, but they didn't always fully cook the meat. I was getting sick from hamburgers and stuff all the time and didn't know why until I observed their cooking habits.

I've long since given up fast food because after working there and seeing what it's really like, I don't want anything to do with fast food.

Well, I worked on pizza hut and that's true :D I've never eaten pizza again (pizza from fast food restaurants, of course) :)

nabhan Jun 30, 2006 09:42 PM

He's asking why, not if that's the case with you.

McDonalds fries are better than most other fast food places, anyway. I don't think there are many places that can compare, except maybe new york fries which is a given.

I'm just telling my own experience, not answering anyone.

In addiction, I don't think any fast food place has better quality ingredients than other (they use almost the same: pizza hut vs. pizza world for example). Maybe we could talk about the way they do use those ingredients. Even if we talk about the oil they use to frie, I can bet they use the cheapest of market (that's sure and of course, it is NOT olive oil :) ).

About other ffp you talked about, I dunno them 'cos there isn't anything like that here.
