Moskau! Moskau!

Curse my friend for ever showing me this video!

This shit is addictive and corrosive at the same time!

Sounds like a really cheesy version of YMCA or something... I dunno why. <_<

JazzFlight May 27, 2006 01:54 PM

I never really got into this fad.

BTW, it's gotta be a year old by Internet fad standards...

It had its rise after the Numa Numa kid hit it big.

Rockgamer May 27, 2006 02:28 PM

Yeah, I saw this a while ago, and it wasn't funny or cool or anything the first time I saw it, and it definitely isn't now. I don't even see how this could really appeal to anyone (it's kinda annoying, actually).

Yet you post in here.

I know it's old, saw it about a month ago but I just stumbled upon it.

Well, last time I checked, I was entitled to state my opinion. Sorry that it doesn't agree with yours.

And trust me, it's way older than a month, because I'm pretty sure I saw this over a year ago.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen May 27, 2006 04:24 PM

Hey, I happen to like Dschinghis Khan, or at least Moskau. I have no opinion on the fad (which is now "dead", or at least "inactive"), but they were funny and the music was catchy as hell.

EDIT: Huh. Upon checking YTMND for the "original" Dschinghis Khan fad's date, I found out the guy in blue died a couple weeks ago.

EDIT2: Okay, here we are. This is generally considered the founding of the Dschinghis Khan fad, and it was made on April 7, 2005. So, a little older than a year.

Sometimes I wonder how people can find this kind of thing funny. I mean its just a bunch of people singing while dancing...I don't see what's so appealing about it

Koneko May 28, 2006 03:21 AM

It's a catchy tune. My husband'll listen to it all the time.

This is logic at its best.

observation:
i find it just a bit interesting that we have posts saying "it's not cool or funny" or "it's stupid" when really there is no counterpoint. unless i'm partially blind, there is no post here claiming it's funny, cool, awesome, or any other positive adjective. well at least we're in agreement.

oh, and it really is annoying.

perhaps the logic lies not in the words themselves, but behind them. in short, the likeliest explanation is he meant he rediscovered it after seeing it a month before. if that's the case, human error trumps logic.

The thread being created in "The Place of Laughs and Games" proves otherwise.

Come on, Russian Power Rangers never get old. Boris the red ranger is my favorite there.

Indeed, you're like a genius of logic waiting to be discovered.

Rock May 28, 2006 01:42 PM

Well, it's only truely funny if you know the origins of that band. For those of you who haven't noticed, they're German and the lyrics are also German. Dschingis Khan were big in the late 70s and 80s, but this particular song is still very often played at Russian weddings.

They actually sing "Moskau ist ein schönes Land" which translates to "Moscow is a beautiful country" for extra hilarity.

Of course, this is all sorts of weird by today's standards.

Mojougwe May 28, 2006 10:45 PM

Wow, are those the only dance moves they KNOW HOW TO DO? Can we try a little variation to stride us away from boredom?

Yeah, if you look for an English translation on Google (I only found snippets of partial translations), the lyrics are great. Stuff about the party life of Moscow and how its such a great city despite the Soviet Union's policies.

José Jun 3, 2006 12:30 AM

Thankfully, there's no need to over-analyze at my end.
"Moskau," IMO, is real goofy shit. I laugh at goofy shit.
That's where the funny comes from.
Hoo hah rock n' roll.
