Reading Burned DVDs

I can't figure out how to fix this. My DVD-RW drive works fine when I place it regular music CDs, regular DVDs, game CDs, blank DVDs and CDs, and burned Audio CDs. However, none of my data DVDs which contain Avi. files seems to be working. I mean the drive doesn't even recognize that it's there. I don't know how it makes sense that everything else works but the burned data DVD isn't being read by the drive.

Which burning program are you using?

Nero Burning ROM 6.3.0.2 by Ahead Software AG.

Edit: Let me also say that the DVDs burned by this software work fine on my laptop. I seriously think that there's just something wrong with the DVD-RW drive on my PC. If I can't get a quick fix from this forum then I'll probably just end up buying a faster one anyway. Any advice on which DVD-RW drive to buy on newegg or tigerdirect would be appreciated.

2 things.

1) What type of DVDRs are you loading into the computer and what type of DVDRs can your computer read? Generally everything can read everything, but just need to check. If you're not sure what your DVD drive supports, use Nero's InfoTool.

2) Did you/whoever-made-the-disc close the session/disc? Cause that affects readability too to some extent.

Old discs? Chance of deterioration?

Shad0wF0x May 27, 2006 05:24 PM

I'm certain that it's not the discs since they worked before on my PC. I've also tested them on my laptop and they're fine. The disc is Fujifilm DVD-R 120min/4.7GB/16x speed. I've been planning on buying a new DVD-RW drive anyway so whatever.
